Despite the banal lyrics, George was poking fun at the then current music trends by making a cariacature of himself on stage and in his music. In fact, as I recall he used to say that he was not a musician as much as he was a businessman. That's truth in advertising seasoned with a small amount of humility.
Yet he still sold millions of records and never paid anyone to get airplay.
