They're bullhorning everything as hysterically positive right now. Even the usually liberal media. For example, on ABC Radio news this morning, the 0.9% rise in retail sales was described as "huge"! Now, in what numerical system is under one percent huge? Anyone who takes this stuff at face value is very, very naive (and is going to get hurt badly when the realities come out).
This is one of those cyclical things; right now greed rules the world and colors peoples' perceptions and sense of what is important. At some point in the future sentiment will swing from greed to fear and the cycle will begin anew.
Context.<p. If one percent of Monaco's population decided to move to China no one would notice. Reverse the two nations and direction of travel and it becomes a bit more significant.
