The White House yesterday said a new immigration review is under way that could lead to amnesty for millions of illegal aliens living and working in the United States.

Confirmation of the review came during a White House briefing, just two days after Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said during a town hall meeting in Miami that the government had to "afford some kind of legal status" to the 8 million to 12 million illegal aliens in the country.

NO! If President Bush proposes an amnesty for illegal aliens, I'm sitting out the election next November. Americans don't want one.

"Those are some foundations for moving forward on a more orderly, safe and humane migration policy.

What about moving forward on a more LEGAL migration policy?

"We've taken steps to improve border security -- significant steps, I might add; have made great progress there. We've taken steps to improve the immigration infrastructure," said White House spokesman Scott McClellan. "Those are some foundations for moving forward on a more orderly, safe and humane migration policy.

"And this is a matter that really is under review at this point. We continue to look at it," Mr. McClellan said.

Tell you what, Mr. McClellan, let's get an Illegal in your job if your boss pushes an Amnesty through.

Looks like Ridge was Bush's spokesman. I will listen to Rush Limbaugh tomorrow.

"the government needed to "determine how you can legalize their presence" and then institute an immigration enforcement policy to prevent future illegal entries. "

===

Even if they do something about the illegals -- but they need to do it in the REVERSE order. SEAL the borders FIRST. Then decide what to do with those who are already here.

If they make some announcement that they will legalize those who are already here -- I bet there will be millions rushing acrosss the border in the next few months, to try to be part of this mass legalization, which would be disaster.

If Bush drops the amnesty bomb, it will call into question everything he has done. I can't trust a guy who places personal power above the future of the country.

Exactly. This country is barreling down the road to despotism and national suicide and it won't matter who helps it get there. Under President Bush, it would simply be slower but the outlook is still grim. Most days I am an optimist but sometimes you have to wonder if America is in the same situation as late Imperial Rome prior to being overrun by the barbarians in the Fourth Century CE.

Bush was working on amnesty for the criminals when 9/11 made it politically hazardous to push it farther. Now he thinks he can get away with it with little or no personal political cost.

What part of "this administration has not taken a firm policy position on that" did you not read?

Ahh, nice thought however the privileged few in this country are protected from their own political follies are they not?

And why haven't they? Is standing up for our country too principled a thing to do? Not that Nikita Dean is any great improvement. He joins Jorge Bush in the belief we'd benefit by throwing open our borders even wider - this in the age of 9-11!

Illegals won't prop up the federal entitlement systems. Making them legal taxpayers, will.

Nice touch Tom, however let ME be to the point less the political jargon...

the government hard working, tax paying people, who supported you and gave you your position in proxy, had to "afford some kind of legal status" to the 8 million to 12 million "illegal" aliens in the country.

Perhaps we don't concur, Tom, when "Illegal" is an operative word in your statements.

If I recall from this article, they are reviewing the whole matter and debating as to how to handle this all

As unfortunate as it may be, we have a large number of illegals in our country .. and there is no way that we will be able to round everyone of them up and throw them out.

Do I like that fact .. No .. but it is reality.

What I think is going on, is this administration realizes the problem with the illegals and the problems of deporting and they are trying to figure out how best to handle it all

Oh and I think they are more then aware of 9/11 age .. they do get the daily security briefings
