As heard on the hourly update from 1450 WSRQ in Sarasota, FL...
The Lakewood Ranch Neighborhood Association encourages it's residents to put up "holiday" displays that are not offensive to others. They have banned the display of religious, human or mythical characters and only wish that lights are displayed. Holly Wells, the President of the neighborhood association, states that she wants "tasteful" displays which are not offensive to other's beliefs.

FYI. Lakewood Ranch is a huge multimillion dollar development in the Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida area. This news flash has been on 1450 all day long and has been forwarded to O'Reilly and Hannity as I'm sure they will have something to say. This is another case of the anti-Christmas Nazis ruining the holiday. You can't display the nativity in your own front yard and somehow Santa has become a religious symbol to these idiots. Please, let them know how you feel. The email address to sent inquiries, etc. is:
Lakewood Ranch Contact Page
Please, feel free to wish them a Merry Christmas, and let them know how you feel.

Lakewood Ranch is just up the road from me and I can confirm hearing most of the news report related in this post. (I say most, because I did not hear the entire report)

Sorry, that's a violation of the first amendment. I HOPE someone has the you-know-whats to challenge this.

I'd sit on my front lawn with my G3A3 and challenge one of the HomeOwner's Association officers to set foot on my property and remove Christ, Santa or the reindeer.

I hope so too. I was looking at homes there. I'm calling my realtor in the morning and telling him to pound sand.

Some HoA covenants have been challenged in courts. The HoA wins because the 1st Amendment pertains to government, not a private contract entered into willingly, which is what an HoA convenant is.

FYI, some local Catholics heard this and they are trying to get 300 plus people to go sing Christmas carols in that development. Just to piss that wench off.

I HOPE someone has the you-know-whats to challenge this. Don't hold your breath waiting for the ACLU to champion this First Amendment right! They're as anti-Christian as they come.

The only opinions that count are those of the residents of Lakewood Ranch, and they are all probably well-aware of this issue already. Hence your post only serves to denigrate self-governance by inviting people from all over the US to send in emails to them to tell them how to run their own affairs.

What does it take to offend others today. Every jackass inhabited by spite and wanting to be a center of importance is easily offended by everything.

I'm really glad I live in a swamp.
Seriously.
I can't imagine agreeing to live in a development where some committee gets to call the shots on my property. I can't imagine ever moving into a place like that. Guess its good if you like regimentation and an ability to keep riffraff (like swamp dwellers) in line. They gave these people the power to determine the color of their houses, their plantings, their pets and their fences, so I guess they have to live with this too.

Where did this sad excuse for an Americaqn come up with the notion that my tradition, expressed on my own private property, is offensive to my neighbors.

The PC Grinches are at it again. 2 years ago, a neighborhood association in, I think, Palm Beach County forbade a man from flying the American flag on the 4th of July. PC liberalism is running amok.
