President Bush yesterday ruled out granting "blanket amnesty" to as many as 12 million immigrants illegally in the United States, but said he supports a policy that benefits American business owners and immigrant job seekers.

"We need to have an immigration policy that helps match any willing employer with any willing employee," Mr. Bush said in a news conference yesterday.

Blanket amnesty was NEVER the end game. It was a 'shocker' to soften us up for a McCain plan. They will now make the case like it is a compromise.

I will not falter. NO. No. No.

It is to expand the H visa to include the unskilled.

BTW we ALREADY have a blanket amnesty program for those who are here illegally for 10 years. Been that way since they updated the previous only stay here for six years.

There has generally always been some sort of hide and seek reward.

It needs to be made on the deal that all the illegals go home first to sign up :OP. I mean that really. How is it fair to those Mexicans etc... who do wait to come here legally. I'm not against a worker program as long as Mexico foots the bill for their medical and education while they are here.

This is the issue that could cost Bush a second term.

He better get these illegal people out of my country or I will begin voting for someone who will!!!

Bush clearly has no intention of laying out anything coherent on immigration policy before the next election. It will be zig and zag, ending up with next to nothing. The more interesting question is what Bush might do in his second term. Will this issue interest him enough to take some risk to actually deal with the issue in an more coherent and thoughtful way, which while controversial, will at least represent a point of departure for debate? I suspect the answer is more likely than not, no. Nature will take its course. It may be, that in a decade, Europe and America will be competing for Latino immigrants. Stranger things have happened. As it is, a rather significant shift between the two continents in immigration patterns is emerging.

Yeah. Let illegals overrun the system by not enforcing any laws, thereby encouraging it, then throw up your hands and say we have no choice but to cut a deal.

Saw it coming...

No doubt, at the expense of our citizens.

The fed govt is not an emplotment agency.

This is a soundbite diversion.

The 'everybody wins' scenario will be presented in 2005

How about we end this "recognized knowledge exception" for allowing all these open boarder advocacy agencies permitted to represent illegals in immigration matters.

Next I would have a national list of people ordered out of the country. Then, just like instant back ground checks, 100% of all arestees would have their names and figerprints run. No discrimination 100%.

{Another piece of legislation known as the DREAM Act would give legal and permanent status to tens of thousands of children of undocumented immigrants. The bill, whose name is an acronym for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, was sponsored by Sen. Orrin G. Hatch, Utah Republican. It recently passed in the Senate Judiciary Committee and is awaiting a full vote by the Senate.}

I hope the DREAM Act gets voted down in the House. Orrin Hatch's brain cells must be breaking down.

It is an effort to reinstate "the anchor child". Children born to prevent illegals from being deported. The 1996 immigration reform act did away with the "anchor child". It is basically come back when you are 18.

What trial balloon?

Nothing has gone down in flames for Bush regarding amnesty. He is making a patch work quilt a piece at a time instead of a blanket amnesty.

Last week he snuck $1 billlion for the illegals in the Medlicare bill. He wants a separate bill for farm workers, a separate bill for guest workers, and a separate bill for college tuition for the illegals.

The illegals already have their own emergency medicaid program for their health care paid by you and me. WIC has been increased to age 5 so the illegals will get plenty of food.

When all of these quilt patches are placed together they will look just like a blanket.

Will Bush every uphold America's laws on immigration?

I have only one question about all of this. That is, when is the last illegal alien going to come across our borders?????Does anyone have a clue especially with all the goodies they are getting?
