In Vietnam it was the Phoenix program. In Iraq it is called the Palm Springs program. Has something to do with the Palm trees in Baghdad. In the works is the Cocoanut Program, for when the desert winds blow the nuts from the Palm trees.Following that is the Donut program for the Iraqi policemen who have been trained by U.S. cops.
This kind of crap is endless. Charlie has lost his grip.

Think of a wrong way to conduct an occupation, and the Bush administration will adopt it.

Think of a wrong way to view the world and you'll find it, Ted.

There are no good wars, and there are no good guys on either side.

Sounds like someone is still putting their Pat Buchanan Secret Decoder Ring to good use. It's one thing to be wrong, and another to be fatuous; Charley managed both within the same sentence (and he gets an extra point for not using "Israel" in the last two paragraphs).

"and from sleeping with the evildoers, let's at least drop the self-righteous bit. Hypocrisy so ill becomes us"

You shouldn't talk to your wife like that Charles.

I guess ol' Charley:
"picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue, and smoking Hash, snorting cocaine, and shooting heroin."

I think this guy needs a rabies shot.

Hersh is a rumormonger and the Guardian has picked up the chant. Rumors are rampant as it is and not just in the Islamic world, if Madge Allbright is any example.

Maybe if they convince the Iraqis that evil Israel is out there, they will get w/the Left's program and start a war of national independance.

Bring out the loons! Is there any better guide to how well we are doing?

Anything to try and derail W.

I used to have, now and then, a bloody Mary or several with a CIA man who had run the infamous Phoenix Program in Vietnam. ...[snip]... Another friend of mine, on loan to the CIA from the Green Berets, paid Nung mercenaries $5 for each Vietnamese head they brought in.

My my, you certainly do seem to hang out with a lot of bullsh*t artists, don't you? These "friends" have names, or were they just barstool commandoes? One easy way to spot a phony, I've noticed, is he will never be an ex-cook or company clerk, he's always a veteran of the Special Forces, Seals, CIA/SOG, or some super-secret spooky organization that "if he told you the name, he'd have to kill you".

I hope you meet one of the real thing some day. One of the first things you'll notice about them is they don't go into bars bragging about atrocities or trying to impress the drunks with spy stories.

Re: If you are one of those superpatriots who like to wrap themselves in the American flag while you watch Fox News, don't be shocked. We did exactly the same kind of things during the Vietnam War. I used to have, now and then, a bloody Mary or several with a CIA man who had run the infamous Phoenix Program in Vietnam.

I am guilty on several counts here, but the Phoenix Program was simply us doing the same thing Charlie did to anyone who opposed them: good, bad, guilty or innocent. However, we focused strickly on old Charlie himself and it was wildly successful. If it had continued, instead of being halted by pudnockers in DC, the history of SE Asia might be very different.
