WASHINGTON - Despite former Rep. John Thune's decision Tuesday to stay out of the special election to replace Bill Janklow in the House, South Dakota could find itself the center of national political attention again next year.
House and Senate Republicans have been playing a recruiting tug-of-war over Thune ever since Janklow was involved in a fatal car accident Aug. 16 near Trent that led to his conviction on man-slaughter charges and his resignation from Congress.

Daschle will get the needed number of votes from the Reservation and barely pull it out in the end.

Uh oh, the GOP notices Daschle is weak.
Daschle was toast until the GOP gets involved and pulls defeat from the jaws of victory.

South Dakotans will want at least one of their Senators in the party that will control the Congress for a generation.
Daschle is toast if Thune runs.
The old shell game doesn't work after you've seen it played once.

Daschle will get the needed number of votes from the Reservation and barely pull it out in the end. Unless ABC News needs another authoritative and unbiased commentator.

Daschle will win because the average South Dakotan doesn't seem to know or give a damn that Daschle is a liberal extremist.
