I changed the title of the article, because it was vague. I think my title more accurately reflects the article's position.

Thanks for the chuckle.

Am I to presume that Mr. Browne would be happier if Saddam Hussein were still in power (rather than in prison)? Sure as hell sounds like it.

Browne continues to demonstrate that he despises the United States.

And this is the voice of the Libertarian Party?

The policy here is not to do that. If you feel the urge to express your individuality, then keep the title then say what you want to say in parenthesis.

Anyway, all the above proves is that the Libertarian Party is not for serious people. It peaked in 1980 with about a million votes - and its been downhill ever since, which is a good thing.

Keep 'em coming, Harry. The LP needs more zeroes to the right of its decimal point.

Harry Browne very nearly managed to get Gore elected in 2000. He took more than 16,000 votes in Florida.

If Bush had not taken action in March 2003, Saddam Hussein would still be in power and several hundred Americans would not have lost their lives in Iraq. Some Iraqis are dead who might otherwise be alive...but if Saddam were still in power, probably a much larger number of Iraqis who are alive now would be dead, and the Democrat who would take over in January 2005 might be facing a Saddam with nukes.

We're told that that the Iraqis can see now that Saddam Hussein isn't coming back to power — as though they couldn't figure that out for themselves with 130,000 foreign troops occupying their country.

Well, their memories are evidently better than Harry's - last time we paid them a visit Saddam did come back and they were slaughtered like sheep. That sort of thing can leave a bad taste in your mouth. Either Harry's being disingenuous here or he's really too stupid to realize that a lot of Iraqis really did think Saddam might come back - say, if Dean or a fool named Browne should ever sit in the Oval Office?

I'm leaning toward the "stupid" explanation myself.

Some politicians said that if anti-war protesters had their gotten way, Hussein would be in his palace today, instead of in jail. Yes, and if the anti-war protesters had gotten their way, several hundred Americans and thousands of Iraqis would be alive today, instead of dead.

I see. So Saddam, brutal dictator that he was, posed no threat to those folks by remaining in power?

Harry Browne is still thought by some Freepers to be pro-life (he isn't). Perhaps the same ones will continue to believe he's pro-American (he isn't).

He’s a liar. He’s a torturer. He’s a murderer. . . . He’s a — he’s just — he is what he is: He’s a person that was willing to destroy his country and to kill a lot of his fellow citizens. He’s a person who used weapons of mass destruction against citizens in his own country. And so it’s — he is the kind of person that is untrustworthy and I’d be very cautious about relying upon his word in any way, shape or form.

Well said.

Your post was confusing enough, and then I read that -- the kicker, if you will.

Why are YOU here on FR?
