For the first time, the chairman of the independent commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks is saying publicly that 9/11 could have and should have been prevented, reports CBS News Correspondent Randall Pinkston.

"This is a very, very important part of history and we've got to tell it right," said Thomas Kean.

"As you read the report, you're going to have a pretty clear idea what wasn't done and what should have been done," he said. "This was not something that had to happen."

Note in particular Madeleine Albright's shocking reason given at the time of the USS Cole attack why the clinton administration should not respond militarily. It tell us everything we need to know about the clintons. It tell us why clinton redux is an absolutely suicidal notion.

Notwithstanding their cowardice, corruption, perfidy and essential stupidity, the clintons, according to Albright, made their decision not to go after the terrorists primarily to enhance their own legacy and power. The clintons calculated that such inaction would MAXIMIZE THEIR CHANCES TO RECEIVE THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE. No matter that that inaction would also maximize the terrorists' power, maximize America's danger.

he clintons' malfeasance-malpractice constellation was both a necessary and sufficient cause of 9/11. That is to say, had the clintons (BOTH of them--it was a "co-presidency," remember?) competently and honestly and selflessly done their job, bin Laden would be but a footnote today; 9/11, and perhaps even more important, the exponential growth of al Qaeda, would not have happened. It's really that simple.

So now why is Maddy Halfbright suggesting (off-camera) that W knows where UBL is and is saving him for an election year bounce? Would she still suggest to the prez that the USA "should not respond militarily?"

This possibility of using planes to attack buildings came about in 1992. Can we all remember who was POTUS at that point, and how many more years did that person have as Commander in Chief?

Having lived under the Kean régime in New Jersey, I can't say he's a bad guy despite his being a RINO.  It seems like these reports are only based on the executive summary of the report.  I'm hoping there is more meat inside that really assigns blame where it belongs.  (Though if he fingers Tenet, I wouldn't be shocked.)

Tom Kean has exploited the WTC families in much the same way Toricelli did.....for political gain. Remember Lisa Beamer's letter to the NY Times praising Toricelli and asking all NJ folks to vote for him?

Tom Kean's son is a NJ state senator with aspirations for higher office. He hopes his father's name will boost him into the governor's office one of these days......

This explains Kean's pandering to the families rather than focusing on the national security issues before us.

Kean is now proposing we have an organization similar to Britain's MI5......because of course they did such a great job all those years the IRA bombs were going off in London.......(sarcasm intended)

Wow. I just got done watching FSTV (Dishnetwork ch. 9415) and they have a program called "Democracy Now." It appears to run in conjunction with Pacifica Radio. I hear the most radical left wing drivel coming from this station, but tonight as they read their news segment, the host (Amy Goodman) acted as if she was reading specifically from the CBS News rendition of the 9/11 Commission's report. In it, she blatantly said that "Republican governor Thomas Kean has found that the Bush administration is solely responsible for the 9/11 attack." Now, I know the report said that it should've and could've been prevented...but this was just BS. The Left is going after this hard.
