Republican presidential nominees 2008

I think President Bush will be re-elected next year surely. Nevertheless, there is not any sure candidate for Republican presidential nomination in 2008. I think John McCain, Jeb Bush, Rick Perry, Condoleezza Rice, George Pataki and Bill Frist may be candidates.

I would also add that just as GW is, for many people, the right man at the right time, so too will Gov Bush will be the best person for his time. Gov Bush has a lot of foreign experience as governor of this state, and has made many trips abroad to increase trade with Florida. He also speaks Spanish fluently, and is strong on reforming education in addition to leading the way with economic success. I can't imagine any other GOP candidate in 2008 having the credentials and success to match his record.

And, the whole "dynasty" issue becomes a rather moot point when his opponent's last name will be "Clinton."

I doubt we will ever again have up to three presidents from the same family.

What are these "positions" with which I would disagree?

I have observed someone intelligent, dynamic, loyal to President and country, and able to perform an admirable job under trying circumstances. She is in a position of extreme responsibility and managing an organization that hasn't worked well on the best of days in the past and yet is critical to the nations's safety.

I think she would do well in the V.P. spot and that would give her the experience for a shot at the Presidency. Yet again, are her positions those for huge government, socialized medicine, anti-free trade, etc?

But with that said, Jeb is great, too. Pair them up and you have a knockout punch. Question is, would Jeb run? Not sure.

Good call Alberta's, I should have remembered the Frelinghuysens. They must go all the way back to the Dutch days, eh? When you get out to that part of Jersey, their name is everywhere. I've always wondered what its like to be part of a family like that. And in NY there is the Fish family, the most recent fellow was in Congress a few years ago, and I think their involvement goes back at least to the Revolution. The bridge that crosses the Hudson from Newburg to Beacon is also called the Hamilton Fish bridge, and I think the recent rep. may have been Hamilton IV, or something like that.

All I know is that the other names batted around on this thread -- as good as those people may actually be -- did not make me want to run out to the polls and vote GOP. But, I do feel that way about Gov Bush, and many other independents in this state seem to feel the same as I do. Otherwise he would not have won by such a landslide.

We need full control of both houses of congress before we can start eliminating departments and cutting entitlements. Hopefully that's the strategy.

For the record, I don't buy the "Americans don't like dynasties" arguments. Jeb will run eventually and probably win, sooner or later. Whether or not it will be 2008, it is hard to say. I would love to see him run against the Beast. I hope he does run. I'd also like to see Owens run. Both guys are top notch.

If Gov Bush does run against Senator Clinton, I have no doubt he would win, though that win would really make some Dem leaders pout.

I think Gov Bush is truly well liked by voters in FL, and swing voters in this state are not always so easy to win over -- for example, think back to Election 2000.

What some people on FR don't seem to understand is that FL voters see Gov Bush and GW as two different leaders. There are FL voters who supported Gov Bush in his landslide win in Election 2002, but a percentage of those same voters did not support GW in Election 2000.

In 2004 I predict GW will have a cakewalk in FL due to both his international leadership, and, his brother's popularity down here.

Yes. Beyond Florida, on the other hand, people are going to largely associated Jeb with W.

Just admit that you and the rest of you people keep propping up Condi Rice because she is a black woman.

Not just because she's a black woman -- but her gender and race is a political asset. No doubt about that. The fact that she is singled out because of her race and gender on this post just proves that point.

On the democratic side.... and believe me on this one..... Governor Blagojovich of Illinois is sniffing the wind. He is definitely preening for a run. I don't like the guy, but I know he has aspirations for the Whitehouse.

Re your post #291 - Maybe, but I don't think so. Gov Bush is very much his own person and has his own fans all over the country. He is the kind of governor a lot of people in this state will actually miss when he leaves office. You can't say that about too many governors. In fact, FR poster Clemenza moved to NY and already misses his leadership. :)

In addition, since she is Pro-AA I GUARANTEE you she is Pro-Illegal Immigrant.
