Wife, Son Testify On Man's Behalf

CONCORD, N.H. -- The Executive Council Monday pardoned a New Hampshire National Guardsman who needed his record wiped clean so he could be deployed to Iraq.

Keith McNeil, 42, of Nashua, N.H., was convicted of assaulting his wife and son in 1999. He told the council that without a pardon, federal gun laws would prevent him from being deployed with his unit to Iraq next month.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of simple assault, a misdemeanor, stemming from a 1999 incident involving his then-18-year-old son and his wife. He was given a suspended sentence and ordered to undergo anger management counseling, which he completed.

His son and wife testified in his support Monday morning, and the council voted unanimously to grant him a pardon.

It's always a rare and pleasant surprise to hear that a governmental body has made a good decision. I'm glad they got this problem fixed.

I'm sure most everyone here will agree that the Lautenberg amendment is very ill-advised. At the least, it should have an exception in it for the U. S. military. That amendment is just liberal Democratic attempt to interfere with U. S. national security.

From "New Frontiers in Anger Management", Chapter 1, Proper Jihad Response:

1. Aim at the bad guys
2. Pull the trigger

There now! Aren't we feeling better? Feel how the anger drains away as the magazine empties?

Sometimes, ANYTHING is better than putting up with Bravo Sierra from a
spouse and offspring.

This guy is probably just a decent patriot...but it could be that facing
AK-47s, RPGs, and IEDs is preferable to domestic brush-fires.

Or that mess hall food is an improvement!

Oh yeah, it's not the mess hall, it's the D-FAC. Whatever.

I don't know about other services, but in the Air Force it didn't do much for our confidence in the quality of our chow hall food to always see an ambulance parked right next to it.

The problem has not been fixed. Since when do you lose a constitutional right for a misdemeanor conviction? I guess when that constitutional right has been demoted to a semi- constitutional privilege.

And ex post facto too, no less.

The Lautenberg Amendment is one of the most heinous things to come along from our federal government in a long time. For those who don't know, it goes back into a person's past and, if any conviction of any domestic violence of any kind can be found, no matter how slight, that person loses his or her right to own or possess any kind of firearm (I think that correctly states it).

When I first saw this in print, I seriously thought it was a bad joke. When I realized it wasn't, I wrote a letter to my U.S. Senator, then Senator Spencer Abraham from Michigan, now Secretary of Energy. He wrote me a personal letter and said that, in effect, the crime of domestic violence is such a serious problem that, when a person commits it, he or she loses his or her PRIVILEGE to own or possess a firearm. That was HIS WORD: PRIVILEGE.

I was so stunned that a U.S. Senator would not even know enough to call it a RIGHT....

I pretty much have never gotten over that.

And I still have the letter he sent me. Something like that you don't get rid of....

Cut by cut and slice by slice the grabboids intend to restrict gun ownership to fewer and fewer citizens until only federal officers and LEOs will be allowed to own them.

Lautenberg is one of the worst, but he's far from alone. This is Schumer's idea:

"We're going to hammer guns on the anvil of relentless legislative strategy! We're going to beat guns into submission!"
