There is nothing preventing us from enforcing our immigration laws, except cowardice.

You seem like a smart guy, so what's your solution to the illegal alien problem?
Do you really think it's feasible to round up and deport 12 million illegals? Do you really think it's politically palatable to put the army on the Mexican border and have them machine gun down anyone trying to cross illegally? Do you really think Mexicans will stop coming as long as American companies keep hiring them?
To: Mr. Mojo
As long as companies bent on acquiring cheap labor fill the Republicrat coffers Please take your 'Rat drivel back home - DU.
So help me, you sound like my Mom. I love her but she has been a life long 'Rat. She can't think straight, either.
Now piss off.

Very good one-two punch. It won't do much except allow us to pick and choose a bit more the illegals, unless there is a return to the homeland incentive. The jobs attractive only to illegal aliens in our welfarist society will always be filled by illegal aliens (unless we figure out a way to fill them with temporary workers), unless the employers go to jail. And that's a fact.

How is somebody in Mexico going to line up a job here and have it "waiting for him"? You're joking right? They are already doing it. It's a new thing, called a telephone.

If a conservative Republican won't stand up and put Bush to the test on these issues that are important to us I'm writing in Tancredo. If everyone did then he'd win.
To: RWR8189
Dream on. President Bush is going to win in a landslide.

I have a friend who's illegal but has been working here for 17 years. I hope Bush makes it easier for people like him to stay here legally.
God bless George Bush.

They are not enforced because nobody wants to do it. By the way, did you go over the speed limit today? :^)

If companies, including the company that hired a subcontractor like WalMart did, were fined $10k per incident then maybe American companies wouldn't continue to hire illegals.
As it is companies are also in a tough position: if they were to ask for proof of citizenship then the INS or a lawyer might bring up a harassment suit.

Bush said he wanted a program to match foreigners to available jobs. I thought we already had one.

Yep, ifa, coulda, woulda, but everyone won't..... In fact I'd guess not many will..... If pol won't enter the fray then he doesn't deserve the write in....

Flattery works for me. If we employ a Utilitarian approach, then in large part the Illegals can be persuaded to Deport Themselves.

- Put additional agents on the border, possibly initially assisted by National Guard
- Fence additional areas of the border
- Begin an agressive policy of prosecuting scofflaw employers (start with landscaping and cleaning companies)
- Require local law enforcement to cooperate with DHS and turn over illegals that they encounter
- Forbid illegals from obtaining benefits at the federal and state levels (pass legislation overturning Plyler v. Doe, if possible)
- Create a bracero-type program, but require applicants to apply at a U.S. Embassy in their home country
- Actually deport illegals when they are caught; don't just give them a "deportation order"

I sure hope Mr Bush can find enough Mexicans to vote for him, being that if things dont improve greatly his base is staying home. Nuts. A few anti-immigrant bigots may stay home, but most of us (the Bush base) will crawl over broken glass to vote him a second term.

If only we could get some kind of grassroots program against Tom Delay (who I am sure supports this)....get a large enough number of his constituents together and convince him that we WILL throw him (DeLay) out of office if he does not oppose GWB on this.
We need a prominent member of the House and/or Senate to oppose Bush.
It's easier to sway a House member than a Senate member and even the President.
