Parents of Slain Child Beauty Queen JonBenet Ramsey Sue Fox News Network The Associated Press Published: Dec 24, 2003
DENVER (AP) - The parents of slain 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey filed a $12 million federal defamation lawsuit against Fox News Network over a story they say cast suspicion on them.
In the lawsuit filed Tuesday in Atlanta, John and Patsy Ramsey took issue with a report that aired last year for the six-year anniversary of JonBenet's death. In it, a Denver-based employee stated there has "never been any evidence to link an intruder to her brutal murder."
John and Patsy Ramsey have maintained their innocence and said an intruder killed JonBenet, who was found strangled and beaten Dec. 26, 1996, in the basement of their Boulder home. The Ramseys now live in Atlanta.
Prosecutors and a federal judge have said evidence in the case was more consistent with the theory that an intruder killed JonBenet. The parents were never charged.
A Fox employee in Denver referred questions to the network's New York office. Fox News spokesman Robert Zimmerman said he was unaware of the lawsuit and declined comment.

Did Fox News actually directly accuse the parents of the murder, or did they simply show the theories and circumstances?
If we all remember correctly, the parents have not always been 100% co-operative in the investigation.
It is also my understanding, in the absense of other evidence, to always at least investigate the immediate family. In this case, there were some suspicious facts that several in the media, including Fox News latched on to.
I still don't believe that anyone has been on trial in this case, nor has anyone been totally cleared.
Also, did Fox News make up it's "facts" used in their reporting? If not, then I don't see how they can be held guilty of defamation.....
On the other hand - if they fabricated their "evidence", all bets and protection are off.

Sometimes a search will yield better results if you only use a key word from the title. In the case of this thread, I searched for 'Jonbenet' and came up with the earlier post right away.
I'll leave this one up as many may not have seen it.

Thanks. Now I see that the reason the titles were different was because they were from two different sources.

The parents of slain 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey filed a $12 million federal defamation lawsuit against Fox News Network over a story they say cast suspicion on them.Actually...it was their very suspicious behavior after their daughter's death and the subsequesnt police investigation that cast suspicion on them...not a news story.

"There never has been any evidence to link an intruder to her brutal murder".
Where's the defamation in this statement?
IMO, this case will be thrown out of court, unless there's more statements not quoted here.

Thanks. Fortunately for all Californians, enough thought Arnold the better choice over voting their "principle".
Had they not...Cruz BustaMechA might have won. What a joy that would have been.
Merry Christmas from San Diego!
