OMG, that's ONE HUMONGOUS SNAKE!! . . . if the story is true, which I'm a little skeptical about at the moment. I mean, 49' blows away the previous record by 17' and what are the odds of that?

Still, they do have big snakes over there. I was flipping channels one day a couple of years ago and saw footage of authorities in Jakarta cornering an enormous python in a storm drain. The darned thing reared up the first third of its body and that portion of its body was like 7' high and it was hissing and striking out at the cops. Not a happy camper at all. Huge head. Huge teeth. Enough to give you nightmares.

Thinking I've seen that before on an urban legends list, I checked out Snopes, and sure enough: http://www.snopes.com/horrors/animals/anaconda.htm.

Of course, if there are 49' pythons (or anacondas, or boa constrictors, or anything else) out there, all bets are off and Snopes will have to reconsider the "legend;" you'd think a snake that size could scarf down a man with no problem.

Couldn't they say "nearly 1,000 pounds" Who proofs this stuff? Most likely it was a metric conversion thing. Probably the original said something like "almost 450kg". BTW, I bet a nickel the snake measures out at less than 40' when some real experts show up.
