Explosion heard in Baghdad.
Greg Palkot from the Sheraton Hotel in Baghdad, across from the Palestine Hotel:
"We are hearing that the explosion is to the south of us...took place in the southern part of Baghad, around the Karada district, this is a very busy area...certainly would be...busy tonight..." "We're told that there's a large plume of smoke coming from that area."
Confirmed..."in Karada...a base for other international bodies...in area of Al Hamra (sp) hotel, a base for int'l (operations)...(witness saw) "a rocket arc...could have been a rocket propelled grenade..or missile...a red arc....Helicopters in the air...gunfire, we've been hearing a lot of that. Could be celebratory."

Around 2/12 hours to midnight in Baghdad. Greg Palkot says they've been hearing celebratory gunfire all night.

More self-inflicted ludicrously bad PR on the part of the evils --at the cost of how many innocent human lives this time?

What a journalist considers a "loud explosion," a soldier often considers a firecracker.

Who's death are they celebrating this time?
If its Muslim...its probably terrorism!
Hmmmmmm. I think I've got a new tagline!

It was a loud, long-winded explosion. We heard it live.

What a journalist considers a "loud explosion," a soldier often considers a firecracker. A soldier is also glad he heard it, because it means it wasn't aimed at HIM. Such distinctions carry no weight with luxury-coddled self-adulating journalists.

Greg Palkot said this one sounded close, and unlike the usual (massive) controlled explosions carried out by our EOD guys.

They always say it's an RPG and it almost never is. Occasionally it is a mortar but it's almost always a katyusha rocket.
I can hear the difference. The RPG sounds different going off than the katyusha and french rockets.
Over here reporters say "RPG" like they say "machinegun" or "assault weapon" in the US.

Greg reported that he heard helicopters over head They should be friendly, unless, of course, it's BROOMSTICK ONE!
