Raw numbers are statistically irrelevant. Murders per capita is a better statistic to use.

Ditto that. This is a pointless story.

Raw numbers are statistically irrelevant. Murders per capita is a better statistic to use. Either the AP reporter is ignorant, or has an agenda.

He IS likely ignorant, AND he has an agenda... but at least he did point out that NY has 3 times the population with fewer numbers. He got close to actual analytical thought.

They blame the violence on drugs, guns and gangs. The outlawing of all has led to an increase in problems with all.

Making laws and enforcing them are two different things. Like Seinfeld's car rental reservation scene; "You know how to TAKE a reservation, you just don't know how to KEEP a reservation." These law makers feel good about signing more and more laws into effect, but didn't have the wherewithall to enforce the laws already in existance.

Go 3 Strikes!

Out of a sense of pride, I must point out that LA now has in charge Rudy Giuliani's first NYPD Commissioner. What works, works. Doesn't matter whether it's NYC, LA, or Duluth, Minnesota. You just need a mayor with the guts to implement the plan.

Take a good look at this map and compare it to what the article said. Notice they said places like Detroit and St. Louis had their murder rates go down.

Cincinnati is a more dangerous place than Chicago:

+++++

From the 1/1/04 Cincy Enquirer:
http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2004/01/01/loc_bondhill01.html
(excerpt)
Cincinnati recorded its most deadly year since 1977, and 2003 was the fifth straight year that the city's homicide total increased. The 75 killings marked a 12 percent increase over 2002's 66 deaths. Based on Cincinnati's 2000 population of 331,285, the city's homicide rate jumped more in the last three years than the rate of killings in larger and historically more dangerous cities.
(end excerpt)

+++++

Cincy's murder rate per capita is roughly 40% higher than Chicago's. Its murder rate has gone up dramatically in the 2-plus years since the 2001 riot. The article notes that 84% of the murders are black-on-black. All of this deterioration has taken place since the police have had their hands tied and have been demoralized by the "civil rights" fallout from the riot.

IMHO, a good 75% of Cincinnati is more dangerous than most of Chicago.

Overall, the news is good. Crime has falled dramatically over the past few decades. Anti-crime measures pushed by conservatives are a major reason why.

Likewise, this 2003 version of the same map provides additional insights into the stats given by the thread articles.

Between the article and the maps we can trace the exact reason there are more murders in certain states. Ohio has had a worse murder rate than Michigan and the Governor in Ohio still doesn't get the reason.

Wisconsin is going to have the Senate vote the week of January 12. I think they have the votes for an override. I'll try to have a live feed of the proceedings here on FR.

I think the logic of the correlation between murder rates and RTC laws is self-evident to anyone with an open mind. However, I'm afraid I may miss your live feed, unless I can get on the bang_list. Can you help?

Thanks!

The bang list isn't a ping list. It's a list of Second Amendment FR threads. The list is here.

Honestly, we don't hear much about Bratton. Studies show that people who commit serious crime, commit a lot of serious crime. They can't commit serious crimes in prison.

Bratton brought a lot of intelligence to police work in NYC, but you are absolutely right, King James Hahn aint Guiliani.
