Thanks!

Fixed your typo:

I don't think starvation is going to be as major a threat as you think.

It seems to me that we just won't be able to breathe, and most people will die from suffocation.

Coffee Filters are much cheaper than mfg'd dust masks!

And with just a pinch of "8 O'Clock", they smell better, too!

If this thing blows, it might not be the end of humanity, but the experiment in Constitutional Republicanism will be dead, and the world will plunge into another dark age, figliterally.

If where the ash is falling, they was basic (white) filter masks over their mouth and nose to keep the ash out of their lungs when they are outside they will be fine. This worked after Mt St Helens blew, where ash on the towns and cities.

Could have something to do with the fact that it appears to be a volcanic activity of some kind. But to say more than that without data to back it up is called hyped conjecture.
If it's a volcano about to erupt, fine. I'd like to see the facts instead rhetorical pseudo-science theorizing about how we might all die (read between the lines that someone wants a grant for further study I'm sure). It shouldn't be difficult to do the actual footwork to complete a story and tell us all the signs are present for an eruption or to just admit this is hype to draw attention and unduly scare people out of thier money - er that would be tax dollars for the research grants to study the phenomenon..

Nothing more to see here.. move along.

"Nothing more to see here.. move along."

Walp, that settles it then.

The 200'F ground temps in a 7 mile x 20 mile area is just plain poppycock.

Admin - close the thread, Havoc has spoken.

It cannot be said that a valcano erupted 600,000 plus years ago in the area as there is no objective proof of this. It may be that a valcano erupted in the area at some time in the past; but that is as much as one can truthfully say with any precision.

Ahhhhhh, so, you agree with creationists that carbon 14 dating is bunk?

And you insist that the careful analysis of ash falls over a wide area tagged with specific mineral compositions from that caldera . . . that all that analysis as well as the carbon 14 dating of trees killed at the time of the ash falls . . .

You insist that all that is BUNK?

Have you declined God's invitation for some Jr God slot or you're holding out to replace Sagan on TV? I mean, clearly you are sooooooooooooooooo confident you know more than these characters that have studied all these ash falls . . . you must be giving some biggies REAL competition!

Very sobering.

It's not expected to blow evenly, if the geography of previous blows is any indication. Illinois is going to be in more trouble than California.

Your name should be "Radioactivus Magmus."

Any significant sized dig to the magma will result in a volcano... what did you expect. And it may be less than the megablasts which supposedly happened in the past but it will not be a nice little ooze. You keep on ignoring that a nuclear blast will create products that will get blasted forth by the volcano, making it much worse than either the blast or the volcano by itself. Imagine Chernobyl magnified by a factor of 1000. I'd almost sooner get rained on by the megablast, it would be over quicker with less torture.

iow, Why have the hots for nuclear if a conventional dig would do. Baffles me.
