The British press reported that Badat appeared December 4, 2003 before Bow Street Magistrates Cou in central London charged with conspiring with Reid and others to cause an explosion "of a nature likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property in the United Kingdom or elsewhere" between September 1, 2001, and November 28, 2003. Badat has been charged under British anti-terrorism laws also with two counts of possessing explosive materials after his arrest last Thursday in the city of Gloucester, south-western England. Officers said they had found a small amount of explosives during house searches in Gloucester after Badat's arrest.

The British Home Secretary, David Blunkett, said of the detained man: "We have every reason to believe that he is part of the network which constitutes the al-Qaeda threat". Reid, 29, was sentenced to life imprisonment in January after pleading guilty to charges of trying to blow up a US airliner with explosives in his shoes on a flight from Paris to Miami, Florida, in December 2001. During his trial in the United States he declared that he was "a follower of Osama bin laden", leader of the al-Qaeda network - blamed for the September 11, 2001 terror attacks
on the United States.

Both British and American law enforcement are acting on information which has been extracted from the suspects to raise the level of threat to its highest level on both sides of the pond. Why should the public be concerned that they have not been let in on the information? Simple, not knowing is not the American way! No matter what the information, Americans want to know.

No explosions sound like good news to me!

Ummmm, excuse me, BUT this is 2004. "Earlier this year" doesn't cut it. It was early last year, 2003, that Reid was jailed. Get the facts straight, thank you.
