The Raptor has the processing punch of two Cray supercomputers. These three liquid-cooled Common Integrated Processors, or CIPs, are packed behind the Raptor's nose. The CIPs are the brains of the avionics system, enabling the signal and data processing for all sensors and mission avionics to reside in a single integrated system.

Lockheed Martin chief test pilot Bret Luedke takes Raptors out for test runs, flying at supersonic speeds down a long corridor through rural Tennessee. "It's great fun to fly the airplane," Luedke says. "If we have an F-16 or F-15 flying chase, we can just walk away from those guys."

Thunder Over Louisville is one of the largest fireworks displays in the United States. An annual event every May, it features dozens of military aircraft, from the Comanche attack helicopter and the Stealth bomber to WWI bi-planes and a privately-owned MiG-17. The Kentucky Air National Guard opens up their base, located adjacent to Louisville International, and has a massive airshow, with almost every type of aircraft imaginable, from UPS 747's to the F-117A. If you live anywhere near Louisville, it is well worth the effort to watch. But if you do come, I recommend viewing the fireworks display from the Indiana side of the Ohio River, since the crowds in Louisville are horrendous.

I wish I could have gotten some pictures from my friend's apartment, but he moved away from the downtown area this fall. I'll try to find another location where I can take some aerial shots, but I cannot make any promises.

Having worked at Lockheed before the F-117 Nighthawk went public, I've seen MANY flyovers. I was glad to see them at the Rose Parade too.

Thunder over Louisville is a huge fireworks show that is held in April on the Saturday two weeks before Derby Day. (The Kentucky Derby is always run on the first Saturday in May.) An air show is held during the afternoon. The fireworks start after dark and last for a full 30 minutes. Most years, it is the largest fireworks display in the country.

I have seen the B-2 at this air show, and it is most impressive. They are higher than 50 feet off the river (after all, they have to clear the bridge towers), but they are pretty low and you can see them quite well. The most impressive thing about the B-2, at least to me, is how ghostly quiet they are. If you aren't paying attention, you can easily miss it. Not so with the B-1.

And I agree that it is best to go over to the Indiana side of the river. It's a little less crowded and the crowd is less rowdy: more families with kids, fewer drunks.

Yes, I had a B02 fly over me and I too was amazed by how quite it was. It was daytime and I was looking for it. At night it must be difficult to detect. It is a shame that we did not builf more of them Clinton.

My daughter lives right next to Pease Airforce Base in Portsmouth NH.. and they fly over her house regulary. It is an amazing, frightening, thrilling sight to see. They are very low when they come over.. and make very little sound.

You have to learn to recognize the sound as they approach, otherwise you will miss them, or just catch them by surprise.

I will never get over the sight of them flying over.. They seem like something out of science fiction..

Anybody with an interest in flying wing technology should know the Germans were way too advanced for the 1940's! Glad we stopped them or those B-2 would have Swastikas on the wings.
Those are Horton Ho 229 housed at National Air and Space Museum.

I was wondering that - as both pictures (Post 1 and 24) are reported as Rose Bowl fly overs - but the aircraft are not in the same order! Unless the F-22 is also a stealth aircraft, and can make itself look like a F-117 (and vice-versa)!
