Neither, apparently, can the love.

An almost immediate cultural phenomenon when it debuted on HBO in 1998, "Sex and the City" (the final season begins tonight at 9 p.m.) has mainstreamed Manolos, cosmopolitans and serial dating - to the chagrin of many single New York women, who have felt pressure to keep up with the frisky, fashionable foursome.

...She thought she'd land a charming apartment like Carrie's, amass an enormous wardrobe and meet her own "Mr. Big" (though why she'd dream of meeting the equivalent of Carrie's maddeningly vague, elusive, on-off boyfriend is anyone's guess)...

"...I live in a postage stamp-sized hovel with two other girls, and we share one closet. My shoe fund goes to rent. I can't afford a $12 cosmopolitan - I don't even have air conditioning! Carrie's glitz is not an option, and it feels like a slap in the face..."

"...My image of New York was [formed by] what I saw on the show," says 23-year-old Noel Cutler, who is also from Pennsylvania. "It's one of the reasons I wanted to be a publicist..."

Are these airheads for real??? They really moved to NYC and made life-altering decisions based on a TV show?!

"And I don't even want to mention the fact that there are almost no cute, straight, available guys."

I cannot understate the lack of sympathy I feel for the women interviewed in this article. But this girl in particular makes me want to barf. There are hundreds of thousands of straight, available guys in NYC. They just don't measure up to her "cuteness" standards, thus New York has failed her.

Enjoy being 50 years old and living alone with your cats, honey.

Speaking of 50 years old, is that Sarah Jessica Parker's age? She looks ancient in that photo. (Hey, if it's all about looks, I get to play too.)

I really, really like Star Wars.

I have never thought that if I just move to the desert suddenly I'll become a Jedi.

"It's odd to be associated with a type of woman from a television show - especially when the show has nothing to do with my character" she gripes.

So her character, then, belongs on another show?

I had to move out of NYC after living there for 2 years. Loved the restaurants, shows and nightlife but despised the political climate. Moved to sunny South Florida where the nights are just as hot, conservatives run the state governments, and I can carry a gun without getting thrown in jail!

Hey, it's just women trying to enjoy the same priveleges which have traditionally and unfairly been granted only to men. For years, guys have been bamboozled by sitcoms and beer commercials into thinking that anonymous, non-committal relationships are the norm, and that the opposite sex is already to fulfill their immature and selfish cravings for personal pleasure. So, why can't women be played for fools as well?

Perhaps the reason why these characters in and the women in real life New York can't find straight real males is because we have all left the big city and moved to the country.

I moved to Montana, I would not date a woman who had $600 dollars shoes, had to have the latest makeup, perfume or dresses. Why do you have to keep up with the Joneses?

By the way most of these women who I have seen interviewed for this type of article need to take a shower more than once a year, lose about 100 lbs and not stink like a perfume factory.

I still cannot believe anybody on the face of the earth can be this shallow.

This has to be the dumbest show I've ever seen.
