Before attending an opera it is wise to read the text.
As it turns out, the soprano is usually given something less than the main part of the story line so it doesn't matter whether you understand what she's saying.

Before attending an opera it is wise to read the text. I once bought a libretto for "Madame Butterfly" which had the Italian and English neatly lined up line-by-line, with the first page of Italian on page 1, the first page of English on page 2, the second page of Italian on page 3, etc.
How do people publish such brilliancies?
