Not really, you are a foreign brand/company that has offices located in America. Having your headquarters here does not make you an American brand/company.

I heard this last night on late nigth radio while on a long trip and I thought it must have been a joke. I remember getting new Levis right before my first days of high school and thought I was so cool. It's sad to see traditions vanish.

I bet the price of levi's doesn't go down all though they are saving lots of money on wages.

They used to be the leader, but others came out with new designs, etc. and Levis decided to follow others lead. They were no longer in the driver seat and paid for it. What they needed to do is keep production here, lower the pay a little, lower their price and really advertise that they are American jeans. They also needed to make amends with some of the consumers about things like the Boy Scouts and HCI.

I haven't bought a pair of real Levi's since around 1980 when I found about all their contributions to leftist causes. Perhaps there are more people who felt the same way. I can't shed a tear for any corporations that has its headquarters in S.F.. I love S.F. and think its a beautiful city, but the politics there makes me never want to return.

You can bet on it. The only way the price will come down is if a major competitor lowered their MSRP to gain market share, etc. That would force the others to do the same.

My thoughts exactly -- except that Levi Strauss's attitude toward homosexuality goes way beyond 'acceptance.'

They not only 'accept,' but actually subsidize and promote the radical gay agendists. For that reason I haven't bought Levis for any member of my family for twenty years.

You can either pay more for merchandise or move jobs overseas. You can't have it both ways. Check out your labels and see how many products that you buy are made overseas. WalMart's parking lot is not full because they have great customer service.

What we need is Congress to get up the balls and pass a bill that says that any company that does the majority of production outside the country is considered a foreign company, irregardless of where the headquarters is located. Then their products will be taxed like all imports. I think this would keep a majority of production in America.

Along with the San Francisco headquarters, Levi's will continue to base its design and sales staffs in the United States, along with some distribution centers.

Not for long - much of that can be done in India...

I agree, your take on this is rational, and reasonable. Unfortunately, at the top of most corporations today are lazy, corrupt, self centered types. (See: Enron, Global Crossing, Xerox, Tyco... etc). Anyway, the easy, quick solution is to offshore everything but your own jobs. What happens to our manufacturing capability? They don't care. What happens to the domestic job market? They don't care. What happens when people here can't afford their cheaper product? They hope they'll be gone by then. No vision of the future, they want theirs now, and as for anyone else, they don't care!
