Note to self:
When hiking or mountain biking in mountain lion habitat, bring a d*mn gun!

For years, after mountain lions had been hunted to the edge of extinction in the lower 48 states, one heard that mountain lions were afraid of humans and would never attack them. So we stopped shooting them.

When hiking or mountain biking in mountain lion habitat, bring a d*mn gun! This is California. You, mere human, are considered a lower part of the food chain and are therefore forbidden to carry a gun to defend yourself against noble predators like the mountain lion. After all, you are raping the planet and they were here first...

I have often wished I had a gun with me when we hike in the mountains, just for peace of mind. My husband thinks I'm nutty for worrying about mountain lions and bears. His concern is more the 2 legged animals, while I worry about all kinds of animals.

Looks like we will have to outlaw mountain lions now.

I've spent time in some pretty rugged places in North America, and mountain lions scare me more than any other animal. Bears may attack humans if they are protecting their young or if they think their food supply is threatened, but mountain lions are predators who are built by nature to stalk and kill just about anything that walks on land.

Bears also attack and eat humans as predators. Black bear attacks are the most common predatory attacks, far more common than mountain lions, because there are so many more black bears. An excellent, well researched book on this subject is:Bear Attacks, The Deadly Truth.

Anyone who has played with cats should realize that a 110 pound kitty figures to be trouble.
To: TheDon
I admire the majestic beauty of the might cats yadda yadda yadda.
You attack a human, you die. WE are at the top of the food chain, and we're staying there.
To: TheDon
Just for the record. I had nothing to do with this.
