Ex-Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill blasts Bush By Corbett B. Daly

WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- Former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill blasted President Bush in a forthcoming book, charging that the president lacks curiosity and does not engage his aides in discussions about policy. In cabinet meetings, Bush is so disengaged that he is "like a blind man in a roomful of deaf people," O'Neill is quoted as saying in The Price of Loyalty, by Ron Suskind. Separately, O'Neill tells CBS News in an interview to be broadcast on 60 Minutes this Sunday that his first meeting with Bush was "mostly a monologue." "I went in with a long list of things to talk about and,... I was surprised it turned out me talking and the president just listening," O'Neill said in the television interview. White House spokesman Scott McClellan declined to comment. "I don't do book reviews," McClellan told reporters at the White House.

Why would Bush surround himself with near geniouses only to turn around and ignore their input...perhaps O'Neil is just an utter idiot who Bush didnt trust or respect? Gotta earn it there pal.

Listening skill is the most important skill to have. I suppose he would rather have someone like AlGore, who had such poor listening skills he couldn't even hear himself making an ass of himself during the debates.

O'Neill hard at work before getting canned:

Of course Dubya's no better as he met with that singer too. Why for the love of all that's holy does anyone in govt see the need to have anything to do with that guy? Not like there's a War on Terror or economic concerns going on.

I am reminded of all those texts in Proverbs saying that a wise man listens much and talks little.

No one ever learned anything by talking - only by listening can you learn.

Well, is the president disengaged or a good listener? I wish this bitter a__hole would make up his mind, then STFU.

I'm off to find that picture of him and Bono touring Africa in their pajamas.

Conservatives warned the President about O'Neil before he was appointed. Hard lesson learned.

He must have gotten a book from the 80's and did a search and replace from Reagan to Bush.

If the President ever made a mistake it was picking O'Neil and but it did prove that at some point people reach their level of incompetence...

The only people who will care about O'Neil's comments are the media.

President Bush made his intentions clear to the American people. He gave O'Neil an opportunity to join the team. Rather he chose to bash the idea of tax cuts.

Did O'Neil really think the President was going to embrace his ideas?

In several books I've read about the President, the O'Neil's are always listed as close friends of GWB and Laura. I think Laura even maybe went to school with Suzi? Sad he feels he has to trash the pres.
