Jay Rockefeller, Dean, Clark and the rest will say that unless we have proof that Saddam had produced WMD agents the day we started dropping JDAMs and had them loaded to launch at us in 45 minutes time, then Bush is a liar and the war was the wrong move.

No, the inside of the shell was solid but the Bush tax cut liquefied it.

Wow. Thinking like a liberal is so easy.

The leftists will never be satisfied no matter what is found, so who cares what they think?

Um...finding them and turning them over for testing has far more to do with prudence than PR value. The administration didn't order this article written and does not wield control over every member of every coalition force that might find or hear about a cache. It just happens.

That's what some "Freepers" are starting to say on this very thread!

"It's questionable whether those shells are even fireable" Not even questionable.

How prescient of you, given that you are presumeably not on the ground but have only seen photos of two of the shells.

So far only 36 have been unearthed. It is said that there maybe be a hundred or more buried.

You don't think they might have picked the ones that were the most corroded or leaking for the photos, do you?

In any case, this argument is moot. The claim was that Iraq had stockpiled mustard gas. If these shells contain mustard gas (which is pretty easy to discern), then the claim has been verified.

...What DO you guys want Army to find? - a working Neutron bomb?....

One wouldn't be enough unless it was detonated in Washington DC.

Well, then we should at least be honest with ourselves. This discovery is not the evidence we should say proves that Iraq had WMD capability last year. At most, it proves that they were trying to hide WMD a long time ago.

"One wouldn't be enough unless it was detonated in Washington DC."

And then they will say "Saddam wasn't behind it because he would never work with Islamic extremists because his government is 'Secular'"

Leftie: "These are chemical weapons provided to the Iraqis by Reagan and Rumsfeld in the 1980s, blah, blah, blah. The United States is at fault, blah, blah, blah..."

The hard left is a sick bunch and incapable of admitting they are wrong about anything, so this find will not convince them. They are going to mock the fact that Danish troops found these and not GWB himself, thereby proving his incompetence. That's the way they think, which is one reason I no longer partake in debates with the left, it's like trying to hold a rational discussion with Charley Manson.

Won't be happy until they find a nuke? It would probably have to be in pristine condition sitting on top of a Russian ICBM with NYC coordinates still loaded. Even then, if the propellant wasn't in the missile you'd probably consider it harmless.

A glance at the pictures shows their condition to be pretty horrible. Rather dubious they were hidden as part of some grand plan to unearth them and use them later. They likely were simply forgotten.

However, the terms of the 1991 Gulf War cease-fire directed that Saddam must destroy such weapons and provide documentation of such. Remember that Saddam buried JETS to hide them, so it is highly questionable that he buried these rounds to dispose of them, and instead was probably trying to hide them from inspectors. And it makes you wonder what else is lying beneath the sands...

"Icelandic bomb specialists working with the Danish soldiers said the rounds had been found concealed in road construction, Iceland's Foreign Ministry said."

first you people were saying "Saddam had no WMDs since 1998"

I don't think I've ever posted anything about Iraqi WMDs until today, and I'm still slightly in favor of this war, because thrashing any Arab country after 9-11 seems like a good idea, even if its the wrong (non-Saudi) one.

That said, these aren't WMDs because they aren't Ws. They're not even components of weapons, like a storage tank of usable blister agent would be. This stuff is debris.

Exactly. Unfortunately, even an actuve nuke won't 'convince' those who don't want to be convinced.
