Packers' Brett Favre, truly a man's man

CHICAGO - (KRT) - They used to call someone like Brett Favre a "man's man," back when guys didn't have to talk about their feelings or take Lamaze classes or know how to make chicken artichoke soup with fresh tarragon. Modern enlightenment has rendered the "man's man" invisible, or at least forced him to cover up with a sarong.

I'm a Chicagoan born and bred, who hates to see the Bears lose to the Packers. And I love this guy, and always have.

Brett's a Mississippi boy --- he's a man's man and a Southern gentleman. Everything we ladies adore.

This is a mighty fine article, LL, thank you for posting it.

bourbon, WKB - worthy of a MS ping?

I live right here in Green Bay, and let me tell you, Favre can easily be mistaken as your next door neighbor. The guy is so down to earth he still wears the same beaten orange hat he's had for over 10 years. Clothes that looked like it came from Walmart's clearance rack. And he drives a regular old late-1990s Chevy pickup truck.

Some kids who lived in Favre's neighborhood just walked up to his door. Favre himself opened the door, signed some autographs, and threw some passes to them. The man is truly a living legend.

No, you posted it just fine. I only pinged bourbon and WKB cause they're the *pingers* of the MS list.

They'll find it. Everyone will. Thanks again for posting it. I've bookmarked it. :)

I can't claim to be a real Packer fan, but I certainly am a fan of Brett Favre.

Watching him play the game, you quickly understand that you are watching one of the "Masters" at work.

Listening to him talk and you quickly understand that he has no pretentions, he is an honest individual.

That guy is a REAL role model for the youngsters - and there are not that many in all of professional sports.

And, I'm hoping GB puts the smack on Philly!

Go Brett, go!

I was in grad school at USM when Favre was there.

I remember one game in which he scrambled and wound up on the far left sideline when he spotted the tight end wide open on the far right sideline.

He turned and made what is probably the most difficult throw imaginable and hit the tight end right in the hands. He prompty dropped the ball. I had a class the next Monday with that end and asked sort of kidding him why he dropped it. He replied that Favre threw it so hard that he couldn't handle it. What an arm!

Funny, I've never seen Montana block for his running backs. Or laugh at linemen after being knocked down that would've hurt other QBs.

Montana never started 200+ consecutive games.

Give Favre another 3-5 years and he'll break all of Montana's records.
