Mocker Curatolo moves to cleanse God from school
Florida SOUNDOFF ^ | 01-13-04 | Editor

Mzzz. Curatolo at work

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

That’s exactly how the first amendment to the constitution reads regarding the practice of religion in America.

Would someone please tell me how a school board invocation before commencing business is congress making a law respecting the establishment of religion? Nobody can, because congress isn’t making any law establishing religion when such happens.

The Naples School board has been saying a prayer before their board meeting for some 50 years.

Board member and Northeastern liberal Kathleen Curatolo (who ran as a Republican to get elected) must have a problem with that, as she has put the issue on the agenda as to whether the practice should continue or not.

Um… excuse me Ms. Curatolo, but we do have freedom of speech and freedom of religion in this country, and people are allowed to pray wherever they please. As an elected representative, you’re not supposed to be trying to shut them up. I realize this is a hard thing for liberals (who run as Republicans to get elected) to grasp, but it has to do with that inconvenient first amendment thingy.

You also shouldn’t be mocking God, but that’s your problem really. We’ll just leave it at that.

Now – thanks to Ms. Curatolo – we will have local reps for the Americans United for the Separation of Church and State descend upon the Collier School board. Never mind that the Supreme Court and Congress recite prayers before commencing business, this little school board must be stopped. They’re saying all the wrong things.

In case anyone hasn’t heard of these haters of free speech (the AUSCS), they’re the national group who go around trying to cleanse words such a “Christmas” from the public square. If your area there is a religious symbol or mention of God anywhere in the public square in your area, these are the go-to guys. They mask their intentions by trying to convince everyone that they’re also great believers, but they’re not. It’s a cover and they are the farthest as from believers as any you’ll find. Judge by thy fruits, I always say. Here is an excerpt by one of their local do-boys in the Naples Daily:

“. Freedom of and from religion is very important. Accordingly, any promotion or representation of religion by government is a danger to that freedom. — Phil Brady/Naples

Can’t you just feel the love of God oozing from Mr. Brady’s pores?

I spoke with school board member Steve Donovan briefly, who said “It’s a free speech issue for me”. Mr. Donovan believes (rightly so) that anyone can say any prayer they like, with any other member abstaining. He continued: “If a Rabbi wanted to come in or say a prayer, more power to him”.

Mr. Donovan has it right. He realizes that FREEDOM means just that. People who live in free countries shouldn’t have to hide their personal beliefs or check their Savior at the door when they step onto government property.

Yes more power to the hypothetical Rabbi. I may be a Christian but I would love to hear a Rabbi speak of our God anywhere he likes, public property or not (I happen to dig Rabbis). Even if I didn’t want to hear him, my ears wouldn’t fall off and I’d survive the experience.

After asking Ms. Curatolo several times if she had any dealings with any of the members of AUSCS in the past, she informed me that she herself put this on the agenda at the behest of one of their members. I was trying to establish whether the nervous sounding Ms. Curatolo had any contact with the AUSCS beyond the letter requesting the agenda item (which for some reason was specifically carbon copied to her) but she was very evasive and kept telling me she didn’t like my “tone”.

We intend to put a stop to you Ms. Curatolo. If you want to mock God, do it in the privacy of your own home (ironic huh?) not on our dime.

May God bless and keep you Ms. Curatolo.

Ping. Sorry if I've contacted you locally or otherwise already. I tend to pull out all the stops when it comes to the "God Wars".

And yes, we are very much at war.

"Would someone please tell me how a school board invocation before commencing business is congress making a law respecting the establishment of religion?"

The First Amendment clearly puts "establishment of religion" in the noun context, not the verb, as is evidenced by the preceeding small, but often misquoted word "AN". That being said, the acknowledgement of God, the Almighty, cannot be viewed as "respecting an establishment of religion", as no particular religion is ever been given state's endorsement by merely recognizing His Authority.

His Authority.

You nailed it.

He is the light and truth and HE REIGNS.

You would think that example after example of people and societies who reject him descending into darkness would be proof enough for even the most hardcore heathen.

It's not though, some must learn the hard way.

Flood the meeting with anti-Curatolo protestors and speakers. Make sure she feels the heat from the grassroots.

The others will feel it as well.

Not for anything, but SOUNDOFF happens to be the largest internet Newspaper in SW Florida and this meeting is today at 2:00 PM. There is quite the sense of urgency.

But thank you for being so helpful and moving this to chat.

Good going Tony, hit their email box as well. This thing is going nowhere, then hopefully we'll put her out on her contemptuous NEA ass come November.

I remember when we first got to know this Hillary wannabe at the forum we hosted, she came across as a phoney. I don't trust people who sound like Mary Poppins when you're trying to have a down to earth converstation with them.

You should have heard her on the phone last night.

Got the email sent - I am all for it. In fact I would like to start a campaign across America to keep God in everything. ie schools, courts etc etc. Their isn't a piece of mail that leaves my house without "IN GOD WE TRUST" on the envelope. I really can't believe that people are trying to take God out of everything. What is coming next? I am not a fanatic but I want to be able to bow my head and pray any time that I feel like it. In fact I pray for our soldiers every night and hope it helps. Keep up the good work - ping me on anything more like this and let me know it their is anything else that I can do.

You're not only a light in your brothers eye, you're also one in God's.

I - like you - am not a passive Christian. We need to fight people like this, and win. Thank you for your encouraging words.
