And the hot, firey, bottomless pit, keeps getting deeper.

Not to worry, there's plenty of room along side those that advanced those who stand in the gay pulpits.

. . . failing to use a condom would break the sixth commandment, thou shalt not kill.

Either the article is wrong, or the cardinal is a f#cking moron -- the Sixth Commandment is as follows: "Thou shalt not commit adultery."

among the leading candidates to succeed Pope John Paul

The editors of the Guardian check the mail every day, wondering where their ballot can be.

"A Belgian cardinal who is among the leading candidates to succeed Pope John Paul"

I guess he didn't want the job.

....in certain circumstances, they should be used to prevent the spread of AIDS.

It hasn't helped yet, cardinal. In certain circumstances, when you step in front of a fast moving bus you will not get hurt.

Let's all just step around the issue and pretend that it does not exist, something similar to the sexual abuse that has occured in the catholic church in the past.

"Cardinal Danneels, 70, and Archbishop of Brussels and Mechelen,

has also called for flexibility and leniency for Catholics who divorce and then remarry without obtaining a church-sanctioned annulment, and has said he advocates women playing a larger role in the church."

It should also mention that the cardinal tends to place himself above the Church and Christ, depending on the issue of course.

Danneels is only a "leading candidate for the Papacy" in the wildest fantasies of the most demented, homo-promoting, liturgical dancing, wreckovating, wacked-out liberals. I'd place his chances of being elevated to the papal chair at somewhere between 1,000,000,000,000,000 to 1 and nil.

It's okay. He'll never be Pope now -- the Holy Spirit won't allow it. If he was to become Pope he'd be teaching heresy, and as the Pope is infallible when it comes to faith and morals, he will never be allowed to succeed JPII.

I've got to slow down when reading titles. I read this as Cardinal flavors condoms to stop AIDS and expected a completely different article.

**Godfried Danneels,**

Sorry, we don't want this person as a Pope.

The Pope and the Church have been very clear on this issue -- no condoms AIDS notwithstanding. Two wrongs don't make a right. The Cardinal is speaking out of school and will be taken to task.

For Catholics and everyone else who may think this Cardinal represents the Magisterium, please check the following link to The Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Key words: The Pope and those in communion with him. In my opinion this Cardinal is not in communion with either the Pope or the Magisterium, my opinion only.

Magisterium

86 "Yet this Magisterium is not superior to the Word of God, but is its servant. It teaches only what has been handed on to it. At the divine command and with the help of the Holy Spirit, it listens to this devotedly, guards it with dedication and expounds it faithfully. All that it proposes for belief as being divinely revealed is drawn from this single deposit of faith."

100 The task of interpreting the Word of God authentically has been entrusted solely to the Magisterium of the Church, that is, to the Pope and to the bishops in communion with him.

2034 The Roman Pontiff and the bishops are "authentic teachers, that is, teachers endowed with the authority of Christ, who preach the faith to the people entrusted to them, the faith to be believed and put into practice." The ordinary and universal Magisterium of the Pope and the bishops in communion with him teach the faithful the truth to believe, the charity to practice, the beatitude to hope for.
