Not just part of the rock world, but part of the post Cold War world that only the new is good, that the old is, by definition, an anachronism.
The cure isn't to become upset at the "corporate machine" but to use your parental authority wisely, to insure that your children undrstand that, while other parents may be nerds, you are loving, caring individuals who accept your charge to guard your children seriously.
If anyone tries to get in the way, whether MTV, school, government, GLAAD, GLSEN, or cousin Nicky, kick them out of your kids' life. Kick them out fast and hard.
