Exactly, I dressed "differently" then my folks back in the 70s, now my kid is wearing clothes reminiscence of my wear of the 70s, i.e. tight pants and shirts, wide belts, etc...

Exactly, I dressed "differently" then my folks back in the 70s, now my kid is wearing clothes reminiscence of my wear of the 70s, i.e. tight pants and shirts, wide belts, etc... I can agree with wild hair and funky jeans, but I can't agree with body piercings and tattoos. I can look at the strange hair styles I wore in the '70s and laugh, because I cut my hair in the '80s. What do you do with a tattoo or a nose ring that is out of style?
It's hard to know what is honest self-expression and what is self-destructive rebellion. There are no quick answers. Parenting requires work.
In the article above the father took the time to get inside his son's head rather than establishing a policy that might prove to be a problem later. That's what parenting is about.
Shalom.
