Wasn't there a sci-fi flick in the '50's that had aliens living underground? They'd cause holes to swallow unsuspecting humans and capture them.

That movie was "Invaders From Mars" I saw it as a kid and thought it was the greatest movie ever made.

I later saw it as an adult and it was not even close to as good as I remembered. I then saw it a third time and it was a little better, maybe my expectations were too high.

The sequel was just so-so.

There is a large sink hole on some of my relatives property which literally just goes down about 50 or 60 feet. My Father said when he was a boy, his brother fell in it one night while they were hunting. They had to get a rope to get him out.

"Woof! Woof!"

"What's that boy?"

"Woof Woof Woof!"

"You say she's stuck in a sinkhole? Let's go!"

I wondered if this was George Bush's fault, but since it is in Florida, I guess they can blame it on Jeb.

>>...That movie was "Invaders From Mars" ...<<

Hey thanks. I'll see if I can find it.

Like you, as a kid I thought it was great. But, it's hard to watch old movies (even from the 80's) because of being used to the directing/editing/scripting techniques used today.

What a nightmare! Sounds like she was extremely fortunate that it was only 10 feet deep and she was in a place where help would hear here and could get to her! Hope she makes a full recovery. Sounds like "Fido" is going to be "housebroken" shortly.

I foresee these comments by the demo dwarfs;
Dean; This sinkhole is directly due to Bush's lack of leadership. And what have my opponents done about them as DC insiders? NOTHING!
Clark; When I'm President, they'll be no more sinkholes. I Guarantee it!
Kerry; When I was in Vietnam I SAW and fought against sinkholes.
Gephardt; Undoubtedly this was a NON-UNION Sinkhole. As President I vow to unionize ALL sinkholes!
Kucinich; We need a Department of Sinkholes to end this madness!
Sharpton; Dis waz a racist white sinkhole. It just attacked a whitey by mistake!
Edwards; Lady, Call my law office, I'll sue!
Lieberman; It's Bush's fault. He should have went to the U.N. for their help.

There was another, later, flick that sounds similar. It was called C.H.U.D. which, IIRC, stood for Canniballistic Human Underground Dwellers. A real hoot. If I had more couth I would say that watching it was a guilty pleasure, but I don't, so to me it was just a hoot.

Was this whe movie where the underground monsters had fish scales, made noises like "Gwump...Gwump" when they talked, and were terrified of the archeologists flashlights?

When I was a kid, I was watching that at the neighbors and my Mom called me home for supper. I was really into it, but Mom was hot, and I never got to see the ending.

FWIW, 29 years later, on the night my girlfriend and I moved in together, it was on again. She was hungry though, and we had to go eat, so I missed it AGAIN!

Sure would like to know the name of it!

Two things:

Where is Lassie when needed?

This is why I prefer to have BIG dogs, they could have pulled someone from this dreaded sinkhole that Jeb created.

You can't count on a Cocker (at least the American variety) to do anything but whine, pick up burrs, and pee on the floor if they're frightened or submissive (which is a lot of the time.)

My Labrador runs to me when she hears me cry out. We have trained her to "Go get (family member)", starting by playing hide and seek with her when she was a puppy. I think she could figure out "Go get Daddy!" (She also tattles on the cats when they get on the kitchen counter, but that's purely in her own self interest. They tattle on her too.)

I had a dream (no pun intended) last night that I was at my grandparents's old house in Damascus, Maryland, and the ground was giving way under the house. My grandmother was inside, and she pushed on something in the house, and the whole thing started wobbling like Jell-O! I mean, that house was ready to GO!!
