April 28, 1971, 4:33 p.m. President Richard M. Nixon takes a call from his counsel, Charles Colson.

"This fellow Kerry that they had on last week," Colson tells the president, referring to a television appearance by John F. Kerry, a leader of Vietnam Veterans Against the War.

Nixon Thought John Kerry Was a "Phony"

I had to do a double take. I thought it said:

Nixon Thought John Kerry Was a "Pony"

Ask John McCain. Both left for richer women. For McCain, he divorced her after she got into a horrible, body-deforming auto accident.

But Bernique remains upset with Kerry's assertion that atrocities were committed, an assertion that Kerry has not backed away from. "I think there was a point in time when John was making it up fast and quick. I think he was saying whatever he needed to say."

Seems as thought Nixon wasn't the only one who thought Kerry was a fraud

You have to understand. This is the Boston Globe. THEY LOVE KERRY. The Globe is a Liberal Kennedy/Kerry partisan rag.

They think Nixon=Evil, aod so do Democrats, so in a partisan Democrats eyes, this is an amazing story - like a David v Goliath story... and showing this obscure 30 year old piece of info right before the NH primary is the best thing they can do to BUILD KERRY UP.

Something the Liberal media has been doing for a while:

"A few weeks later, Kerry was featured in a lengthy segment on the CBS television program "60 Minutes." Correspondent Morley Safer, in a segment titled "First Hurrah," portrayed Kerry as an eloquent man of turmoil who had a Kennedyesque future. "Do you want to be president of the United States?" Safer asked Kerry. "

On Jan. 3, 1970, Kerry requested that his superior, Rear Admiral Walter F. Schlech, Jr., grant him an early discharge so that he could run for Congress on an antiwar platform.

This special early discharge I found to be interesting also

Kerry stayed at the home of a Georgetown socialite while other protesters slept on the mall.

He hit the ground running - as a gigolo - didn't he?

I suspect the picture of him throwing medals over the White House fence will erase any bump from his veteran status. There is also the matter of his claim in Congressional testimony that war crimes were pervasive in Vietnam, but he later backpedalled and asserted he never participated in or witnessed any war crimes. So what was the basis of his testimony?

Actually it was Al Gore's campaign in 1988 that first brought up to whole Willie Horton thing.

Actually atwater was *never* vicious, that was liberal media spin.

Atwater loved music and hamming it up. He also liked to win. Well, so does every good political campaign guru. As a political operative though he had none of the real viciousness of say a Carville or a Chris Lehane.

Now, Rove is Mr Svengali but IMHO such thoughts always overrate the operative's influence. Candidates run, not operatives.

1988 was a classic issue-oriented race, even if the Liberals didnt "get" that the flag or culture "mattered". They gave the truth about the ACLU-card-carrying Dukakis and it looked like h*ll to the Libs. A bit sorry the Bush 41 Presidency wasnt as focussed as the campaign!

Do you have the picture? I remember seeing a video clip of former troops throwing medals, but I've never seen John Kerry doing it.

I think that's a problem with wealth. The hard working, ambitious men who slave to get the wealth are Republican becuase they know how hard it is to get it. But then there are the children and relatives of the rich people, who are spoiled and liberal and have no idea how people actually make money.

Wonder if Nixon was telling this to his buddy BeeBee Rabozo while they were discussing how much money the mob made during their rubber allocation contracts during WW2

Colsen I now like ..but he was a pogue Marine..going after a decorated Vietnam Vet

I like the Kerry of old but not the Nixon or the Colson...

Now I dislike the new Kerry and like the new Colson...after serving during Nixon's 'Vietnamization' still dont care for him too much...or his sucking up to China

I served in Kerry's AO at the same time..he and his boys deliverd us to various parts of the Delta on their PBRs/Swift Boats and picked us up after...(the part I like the best)...

After seeing a few burned out RPGd hulls beached in the mud...those Riverine boys of Flotilla One earned C-RATS

Kerry had the trigger time and earned his medals...dont like his politics at all...but he didnt hide out in a guard unit while his bros were taking shrapnel...I will give him that..

From this article I gather that John eFn Kerry was in Vietnam. And that he's running a campaign against incumbant President Nixon.

Howard Dean tried running against Pat Robertson and Rush Limbaugh.

Why don't any of these guys try running against President George W. Bush?

I knew about McCain; I was 100% behind him for president several years ago…until I heard how he treated his first wife! She waited patiently for him to come home (while he was a POW), then cheated on her when he did get home…and married a girl 18 years his junior! Not my type of guy, to say the least!

As for Kerry, I wasn’t sure if his first wife died or he just found a trophy wife in his later years.

But there was no more beautiful campaign in the 20th century than his systematic dismantling of Michael Dukakis.

Atwater was a true artist, and that was his medium.
