Dutch are 'polarised' says report
By Angus Roxburgh
The Netherlands' example as a successful, tolerant, multicultural community has taken a dent with the publication of a parliamentary report saying Dutch society is becoming increasingly polarised, with:
huge ethnic ghettos and subcultures tearing the country apart.
It is an issue which has been simmering away for years, but only made the headlines two years ago when the radical politician Pim Fortuyn, who was later assassinated, called for an end to immigration.
He said immigration, especially from Muslim countries, was diluting Dutch liberal values.
Now the all-party parliamentary report has reached a similar conclusion. It says the attempt to create an integrated multi-ethnic society has failed.
While most immigrants had integrated well, it said, there were also growing ghettos of foreigners from countries such as Turkey and Morocco.
Even Dutch-born "foreigners" tend to marry within their own communities and find spouses in their parents' home countries.
The report blamed successive Dutch governments for what had previously been seen as a positive policy designed to make life easier for immigrants - allowing them to be taught in their native languages at primary school.
This had merely perpetuated their alienation and prevented them from integrating into Dutch society properly, it said.
In what would mark a reversal of a 30-year-old policy, the report recommended that the country's Muslims should henceforth effectively "become Dutch".

All, THIS is a MAJOR problem in the U.S. of A. also. Are governments DELIBERATELY creating SEPARATE groups in order to play the groups off one another in order to gain more control over all? IMHO, yeah. But, it would seem that the "progressive" Netherworld {err-- land} is becoming increasingly "protectionist". Poor Greenspan. Peace and love, George.

Dutch are 'polarised' says reportIt's true! If you try to lie them down with their heads facing in a certain direction, half of them will spontaneously flip so that the heads of some will be in the crotches of others.
Oh wait, that's the French.....

The Romans tried to do that in the 4th and 5th centuries with the Franks, Visigoths, Ostragoths, etc. It failed when the army, whose generals filled their ranks with barbarians and then fought each other for the imperial purple, revolted and carved their own kingdoms out of the western provinces.

Are governments DELIBERATELY creating SEPARATE groups in order to play the groups off one another in order to gain more control over all?
Excellent question!
I for one would answer that with a yes.
It reminds me a bit of what Malcom X said, that governments divide to rule. Of course, that was the 70's. But still, the situation has similarities.
The larger tragedy facing both White and Black America since the 1970s is that race has been used to successfully divide Americans. Whites have blamed blacks for their economic slide since the 1970s, and Blacks have blamed White racism for deteriorating conditions in the Black community. Race has become a scapegoat for larger economic and political problems that neither White or Black Americans fully understand. While many White Americans today would blame their deteriorating standard of living on Blacks and affirmative action, the real cause of the decline in the standard of living is the movement of American corporations and American jobs overseas, often with the government's support and encouragement. America has lost millions and millions of high-paying industrial jobs since the 1970s, and the competition for the remaining high-paying jobs is fierce. If Americans could go beyond their obsession with race as the cause of their problems, they might find that both the government and global corporations have been undermining American's standard of living.
Well, I don't know how people respond to Malcom X. I'm pretty sure he isn't actualy admired. Although I don't agree with him most of the time and belive he was awfully wrong in several instances I still have respect for the man, since he had an code of conduct I can appreciate.
"If you're not ready to die for it, put the word 'freedom' out of your vocabulary."
"I believe that there will ultimately be a clash between the oppressed and those that do the oppressing. I believe that there will be a clash between those who want freedom, justice and equality for everyone and those who want to continue the systems of exploitation."
Malcolm X.

How was Malcolm X reflecting on the 70s if he died in the 60s?

How do you say "global jihad" in Dutch?
How do you say, "There are none so blind as those who will not see" and "The Road to Hell is paved with...

Kinda like granting illegals citizenship if they serve in the military? Hard to get homegrown boys to fight their own families and countrymen. Illegals don't suffer those kinds of hangups.
To: SkyRat
I have to wonder who you quoted, since it wasn't Malcolm X.

I know a lot of people think "race relations" are important, but I never knew people were getting Divine Revelations over them. :)
