I spoke with one of my best friends about this proposal today. And she surprised me! She is absolutely livid. Why? Because she went through the entire process to become an American citizen (she was born in Canada), and did so legally.
This is a slap in the face of every American who has become a citizen legally- and a kick to the groin of evey American who pays taxes that support illegals through healthcare and welfare.

Someone once told me that if Clinton did this we would all be screaming foul. If any democrat had proposed such a sweeping amnesty as this the republicans would tell him to jump in a lake, if they didn't die laughing first.

Didn't you read the article? The whole problem is the laws can't be enforced because of all the city laws that forbid the LEOs from reporting illegals. The feds CAN'T enforce it unless you can convince all the illegals to move out of all the cities.Baloney. A fraction of illegal aliens exist within sanctuary cities.

"Someone once told me that if Clinton did this we would all be screaming foul. He was right. Because Clinton was a lying scoundrel. I trust Bush %110. He has so far done what is right for this country and hasn't been caught lying. Under this proposal, it is very unlikely that the criminal element will be able to obtain a sponsor employer or much less sustain employment for several years. This will allow the government to better pinpoint undesirables. I think it is brilliant. Bush is an honorable man. I don't see how anyone can think that turning against Bush can solve anything. There are still major threats to our country like the UN, poor public school education, drugs, etc. These are things that only President Bush will deal with appropriately."
I won't chide you by going into the "tooth fairy" point of view in this discussion. However what makes you think an illegal who is sending 40% of their tax free earnings home (of which most illegals are paid in cash, FYI, not via a "paycheck") will suddenly want to pay taxes?

"Bush's proposal allows for more strict enforcement of immigration law and greater control over our national borders by facilitating the repeal of city sanctuary laws." And why should we believe that these sanctuary laws WILL be repealed? The only way to insure that is to write it into the plan to begin with and that's not going to happen.
"The implementation of Bush's immigration proposal could eliminate a significant amount of crime in our large cities."
And what about the tax burden that these people represent? By making them "legal" we are simply making it easier for them to access benefits to supplement the low income they receive doing "jobs Americans won't do."
"Bush's proposal is not a scheme to appeal to Hispanic voters."
I never thought it was. Bush is smart enough to know that the recipients of government giveaways are going to vote democRAT.

Until 1965, we had a guest worker program. It was killed by the Johnson Administration to pay off the AFL-CIO. Until 1965, we had a very small illegal immigration problem. After 1965, we had a HUGE illegal immigration problem.
I submit that the two are a study in cause and effect.
The two have nothing to do with each other. Ted Kennedy is the culprit.

In the city I live it, the police can and do arrest illegals and turn them over to the INS.

All the feds have to do is threaten to withhold federal money from the cities. It's why the feds do the the states so why not the cities?

Maybe if you start calling it an AMNESTY for Employers of illegals...... People who hire illegals often do so because illegals are FAPP exempt from things like labor laws. If the illegals become legal temporary-status aliens, then they will no longer be excempt from labor laws and will thus lose their competitive advantage.

I don't know about where you live, but here in Phoenix, where there are millions of illegals, the police can't do a thing. Once the Chandler (small city almost connected to Phoenix) police tried to round up illegals. They were sued. The illegals won.
