Bush is insulting us, that's what's going on. He's apparently decided he doesn't need us.

To boost the NEA is not a major budget item, but it represents a direct slap in the face for conservatives, who have spent years demonizing it as the evil force it is.

And they keep sending me surveys and requests for donations. And I keep sending them back with a simple suggestion (act like a conservative Republican) and ZERO donations until they do.

Please, everyone - do not miss post #203.

If anyone has any light to shed on some of those numbers and the reasons for their fluctuation, please - I would like to hear it.

The Bush Family believes in reading, arts, sports, and well rounded American citizens

Well, the Bush family is granting my money to death. Let authors, artists, sports minded people and well rounded citizens fly on their own merits. I'm sick of subsidizing all these losers that can't make it on their own.

You sound like Kerry, Dean, pick em "Raising taxes on the rich will pay for schools, healthcare, etc etc." 2+2 doesn't equal 4 there.

I personally wouldn't spend a red cent on the NEA but I'm willing to hear what the actual plan is before I get fired up about it.

An aside: V a V guns in the cockpit, if it was allowed tomorrow the pilots would all buy their own by the next day. The gov wouldn't have to spend a dime. The dudes making 250 large could pick up their own tab or the company that wants to charge me $4 a beer on the plane.

The road to reelection is not paved with the pissed-off bodies of the core conservative constituency. I wish someone would tell the White House that....

At this rate, so many of us are gonna get pissed off that Bush will have to hang up any realistic possibility of reelection.

And if it happens, Bush will have no one to blame but himself.

My sentiments exactly. Unless there is something going on between the lines I cannot stomach any more funding for the NEA.

However, unless the bizarre happens like the President announcing he is switching parties - I will vote for him.

The amount is irrelevant. It's the symbolism. For conservatives, for the last 20 years, the NEA has been the symbol of everything bad about government programs. Now he's going to boost its budget.

It's a direct, deliberate insult.

Sick and Satanic.

Thanks for making it a part of the record, putting it in black and white, for others to see.

But, if it goes to fund patriotic art- what's wrong with that? A good use of money, so far as I'm concerned.

No. You cannot use the one ring to fight the enemy. It must be destroyed. A great president once said that government is not the solution to our problems--it is the problem.

We're probably talking about something like $20 million.

I'll bite...why isn't it a $20 million decrease?

Yes, it is. I guess I just haven't been watching the NEA budget all that carefully over the years. I guess I just sorta let it slip right by me.

I'm watching now, though!!

And I'm gonna give the President a pass on this one cuz it was mostly my fault for not paying more attention all these years. ;-)

George W. Bush: "I've just kited (er, written) a check to Alan Greenspan, to be used to buy more printing presses! Alan, please print more money as soon as is humanly possible! I've got ideas, BIG ideas about what your grandchildren should work to pay off."

Its a jobs program for our grand children... they will ALL have to work because they won't have any choice... hahahahahaha... such a genius!
