My daughter was one of the Youth for Bush lucky enough to shake hands with President Bush. She reports that he was far more charming in person than on TV, has a natural twinkle in his eye, and was looking directly at her during his speech (she was in the front row) and winked at her at one point. Can you say "on cloud 9?"

The 17-year-olds and several of their classmates were invited to meet Bush by the local campaign office.
"I was over there in the corner and said, 'Bush, you rock,' and he said, 'No, you rock,' " said Dougherty

Kiddo, of course Bush says you rock. You're going to have all your future paychecks ripped to shreds when you grow up to pay for his "compassion." Ignorance, and thus youth, is bliss.

"I was over there in the corner and said, 'Bush, you rock,' and he said, 'No, you rock,' " said Dougherty, who was so excited about shaking the president's hand that he didn't want to wash his own.

Too funny!

What a wonderful story -- my daughter felt the same way when she met President Bush last year! He was so incredibly sweet with her; he crouched down to her eye level (she's only 11) and spoke with her for several minutes.

Needless-to-say, my daughter was also on "Cloud 9"!

You daughter is very lucky. It is also nice to hear that there are teens that are interested in meeting such a great man. Thanks for sharing your story.

Don't let KantianBurke highjack this thread. If you ignore people that do not deserve response they will go away.

I wonder if the National Geographic hit piece on Greenwich was timed for this fund raiser?

I've seen him in person twice (although not in the front row) and your daughter is absolutely correct in her assessment. One of my friends was kissed on the cheek by Bush, and she didn't want to wash her face! (She's over 65 -- so Cloud 9 is not confined to the teenagers).

My favorite story about a Bush campaign stop was reported right here on FR after one of his appearances in Milwaukee during 2000 when we gave him a highly spirited welcome. A FReeper reported that he/she was outside the auditorium when Bush came out with the SS and he gave a little jump and a high five to the Milwaukee police and a "Yeeee-hah" Texas yell before he was whisked away in the limo.

The last time I saw him (about 4 months ago) he stayed and signed tickets after his speech for about 45 minutes -- it was a free appearance. No millions of $$$ collected at that speech. Bush is the MAN! I just love him.

Wow, great story, CatoRenasci! Your daughter must be thrilled... I know I would be.

There was at least one other FReeper in Greenwich last night: After Action Report From Freeping At The Hyatt Regency In Greenwich, CT

Great article, and I am so pleased for your daughter!!! Now, does anybody have a tally on how much President Bush and VP Cheney have collected in their re-election efforts? (I parcel out my donations in small amounts to President Bush everytime somebody says something demeaning about him I find particularly annoying. I think I'll send some today in honor of KantianBurke. LOL!)

Cato, this is FANTASTIC!

Your daughter is VERY perceptive.

He is far more charming in person........but what comes through the strongest, IMO, is how GOOD a man he is.

He radiates the joy of the LORD. It's unmistakeable.

btw, Kantian is a grump, and he's trying to hijack this very upbeat thread.

Don't let him bring you down......even if it IS his mission in life.........
