January 31, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Treasury Department yesterday opened an investigation into Iraq's growing oil bribery scandal, in which 270 prominent politicians and organizations around the world are accused of receiving sweetheart oil deals from Saddam Hussein. The probe was launched after an Iraqi State Oil Ministry list of beneficiaries of the lucrative contracts - that included the president of Indonesia, a controversial anti-war British politician, two French officials and even the Russian Orthodox Church - was published in a Baghdad newspaper this week and confirmed to be authentic by officials of the new Iraqi government.

This oil scandal was designed to skirt the oil-for-food regime.

Since Kofi was dipping in those "legal" coffers, it wasn't necessary for him to participate in this one.

I doubt if the Treasury Dept would be investingating many foriegn devils unless they are looking at donations the foriegn devils may have made or just plain bribes to Americans in politics and power.

This could become very interesting.

If we see a batch of left wing senators and congressits resigning in 2004 to spend more time with their families. They probably had a closed door session with someone like James Baker.

Lets hope that any traitors for money get their names published.

Well, this story seems to be bubbling slowly to the top. First it was in the Iraqi paper, then there was the English paper, now it's arrived here in the New York Post. Hopefully it'll find its way into the Washington Post soon.

...has legs...

I sure hope so. This story is good because its meaning is so easy to grasp. It has plot elements that people are familiar with. It reduces easily into the soundbite, "Saddam bribed the opponents of the war". So it's perfectly formatted to be persuasive even with folks who don't follow the news closely. I hope this story really takes off.
