I tried to bump the original version of this article, posted in 2001, but it was locked.
Just a reminder for folks who keep claiming Bush is the lesser of two evils. We know what evil looks like - we had it skulking around our White House for 8 painfully long years. Bush is not evil, despite the quote from my beloved Dr. Keyes, or his inference to Bush's policies.
I didn't support Bush in the primaries; I worked on the Keyes campaign and made no secret about it. Principles, I thought, matter more than party politics. Bush has stood tough on a number of important issues; I backed our invasion of Iraq and the outster of Saddam before we went in, and still do. I will overlook our differences because they are not paramount. If Kerry is elected, and intends to the retun to the pre-9-11 method of dealing with terrorists, our country is in for a world of hurt that will make 9-11 look like a bad car crash instead of horrendous massacre.
No thanks! I will never turn my children's future over to some fruitloop like Kerry.

Fellow Keyes-and-then-Bush-supporter BUMP!

It was an outstanding idea to post this.
It clearly shows that President Bush has never swayed from the goodness and decency that we expected of him as President-Elect.
He still exhibits those traits today. That is refreshing indeed.

I find it interesting and gratifying that the Keyes people are still the rock-solid mainstays of the President's support.
Ah, for a little appreciation! ;-)

Mercifully, I hadn't thought about the Clinton years in a long time. Pissed as I am about his immigration proposal and undisciplined spending, NO WAY is a mediocre, opportunist, UN-worshipping, flip-flopping democrat an acceptable alternative.

... the left while seeming inept and lackadaisicalat regarding foreign policy, are weakening america on purpose. clinton weakened the cia, cut the military. sold technology to the chinese, sold nuclear secrets to the n. koreans. clinton had 3 chances to get osama. also:the 93 WTC bombing, the OKC bombing (ties to iraq), the USS Cole were all unanswered....and for a reason, the twa flight 800 cover-up (shoulder fired missile).
this is not incompetence! these brownshirts want a bloodless revolution and are using the educational system to indoctrinate youngsters. using tv and mass media to spread their marxist agenda to dismantle morality. using trial lawyers to bring frivilous lawsuits against large corporations to undermine capitalism. using activist judges to reverse the people's will. they want socialized healthcare (knowing it's pitfalls) as means for a medical gulag.

I've been in the trenches for hours fighting for voting for Bush, the imperfect, with the betrayed, the 3rd party advocates, the pout and won't vote posters.
Thanks,I needed a break!

This is a great article. Thanks for posting it. Even when I don't always agree with some of the things Bush as done or proposed, when I read this, it reminds me of what a really decent man he is and how truly grateful I am that he's my President.

Thanks for posting this, it has giving me some much needed perspective. In every political group there will always be an on going struggle between idealists on one side and pragmatics on the other, and everyone falls somewhere in between. Both sides serve a purpose; the idealists give us vision and inspire us to strive for the best of our ideals, and the pragmatics try to lead us there. A perfect balance between the two is impossible, and those on the extreme ends of the pole will always be at odds with the majority in the party. Right now, those of us closer to the idealism side aren't happy with Bush and feel the pragmatics are selling us out. The most uncompromising idealists will leave the party. It's sad but inevitable, because it is passion for the philosophy, not the party, that makes them who they are. I hate the amnesty program and the drug bill and all the other spending. But I need to accept that my ideal for the nation will never come close to being achieved, and maybe those leading the party know a lot I don't. I'm disappointed, but I'm not ready stomped off and throw my vote away in spite. The party might not stand exactly where I want on every issue, but it never has and never will. Quitting won't help bring it back, and would help the forces that are intentially trying to harm the nation.

Wow this one is easy for me. Was Bush my first choice in 2000? Nope. But Algore sure would have been my last. And now post 9-11 the formula kind of goes as follows.
Bush vs Clark = no contest (a clinton with four stars)
Bush vs Edwards = no contest (trail lawyers have caused enough damage)
Bush vs Soured Dean = no contest (appears to be unstable not to mention his positions)
Bush vs John f'n Kerry = no contest (his past is enough but the things he's now saying makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up)
And after all of that there is one final filter to run all this through. And it is based on a 40 year record. It goes something like this:
Son in military = no democrats, not now not ever.
To: TheWriterInTexas
Excellent reminder, and before we give Bush to much grief over immigration and spending we must remember it has taken over half a century of two steps forward and one step backward to get the liberal mindset into America. If Bush tries to change it overnight we will have a Democrat in office in 2004. It will be a long slow process of two steps forward and one step backward for conservatives to get the country back on track. Remember Kerry would have been treated as a traitor not a serious candidate for President in 1950. Push to hard and we will have a stampede in the wrong direction.

Thanks for this one. I needed it.
I've just come from watching a bunch of former Bush supporters, or so they say, trashing the president with a load of manure from Chuck Baldwin types.
Now, I'm listening to Chris Wallace and Rockefeller do the same on Fox News.
