I'm sorry for being just a little self-indulgent tonight.

My sympathies Michael. Your grandma sounds like a marvelous woman. She rests now in the Everlasting Arms.

Think of where she now resides and He who nourishes her gentle soul.

Michael,

I perfectly understand your feelings. My Grandma passed away just 10 days before Christmas 2003. It´s a hard time, but you and I, we know that they´re still here. In our hearts, words and actions!

"By gracious powers" (Dietrich Bonhoeffer) helped me during the dark week, maybe it helps you too:

By gracious powers so wonderfully sheltered,
and confidently waiting come what may,
we know that God is with us night and morning,
and never fails to greet us each new day.

Yet is this heart by its old foe tormented,
still evil days bring burdens hard to bear;
Oh, give our frightened souls the sure salvation
for which, O Lord, You taught us to prepare.

And when this cup You give is filled to brimming
with bitter suffering, hard to understand,
we take it thankfully and without trembling,
out of so good and so beloved a hand.

Yet when again in this same world You give us
the joy we had, the brightness of Your Sun,
we shall remember all the days we lived through,
and our whole life shall then be Yours alone.

I thought this was beautiful:

Where The Roses Never Fade

I am going to a city where the streets with gold are laid where the tree of life is blooming and the roses never fade

Here they bloom but for a season soon their beauty is decayed I am going to a city where the roses never fade

Loved ones gone to be with Jesus in their robes of white array now are waiting for my coming where the roses never fade

Here they bloom but for a season soon their beauty is decayed I am going to a city where the roses never fade

"I've got a long road ahead of me this week. I could use an extra prayer or two...."

Consider it done. And you too say one in thanks for having such a long and wonderful life with your grandma who sounds like she was a treasure. Others are not so fortunate, present company included...

My grandmother lived a long, full life. She was in her nineties and moved in with my folks a couple of years ago. She had been sick for a very long time, and I know that she is far better off now than she was while she was ailing. But that doesn't make it much easier to handle.

No.... it doesn't make it easier to handle. We are losing the good people of the prior generation every day, and they aren't making them any more. I miss mine too.

I'm embarrassed to say that I don't think my prayers seem to count for much, but for you, Michael, you get them unreservedly no matter what.

Oh Michael, I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandma. My prayers go out to you and your family. Years ago, my Great-Grandpa died at the ripe old age of 93. He was a wonderful saint. His death brought together family from all over and the healing of old family wounds was nothing less than divinely appointed. I still miss the old coot, but the smiles he left us through his life are sufficient until we join him with our Lord. May that same peace be yours.
