Patton's former mistress resigns from lottery board Associated Press
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Tina Conner, who was former Gov. Paul Patton's mistress and whom he appointed to the Kentucky Lottery Corp. board, has resigned from that post.
Conner did not give a reason for her departure in a Jan. 23 letter to board president but said she "enjoyed my time on the lottery board and was very appreciative of the opportunity to serve on this board." Her term would have expired Nov. 28.
Conner did not return calls seeking comment.
Patton appointed Conner to the lottery board on Dec. 28, 2000, a year after they ended a two-year relationship.
According to lottery records, Conner attended only three of seven board meetings in 2003, the last on July 25. Lottery spokesman Chip Polston declined to comment Monday on Conner's service.
Conner was paid $5,000 a year as a board member.
The board has seven members, all appointed by the governor, plus the state treasurer, who sits as an ex-officio member.
Gleason sent a letter Saturday advising Gov. Ernie Fletcher that he has a board vacancy to fill.
Conner is scheduled to appear in federal court Monday in Lexington to be sentenced on a mail-fraud charge to which she pleaded guilty in October. She was indicted last July for mail fraud for allegedly falsifying an application to Patton's Transportation Cabinet to be approved for a program that helps minorities and women win government construction contracts.
