The Super Bowl-Not A Safe Bet for Family Viewing

We’ve all now heard or have seen the infamous half-time show at the Super Bowl, culminating in the raunchy, strip tease performance of Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake.

Hollywood-Hero agrees with the F.C.C. chairman Michael Powell who said:

"I am outraged by what I saw during the halftime show of the Super Bowl," Mr. Powell said.  "Like millions of Americans, my family and I gathered around the television for a celebration.  Instead, that celebration was tainted by a classless, crass, and deplorable stunt.  Our nation's children and citizens deserve better.  I have instructed the commission to open an immediate investigation into last night's broadcast," he said in a statement.  "Our investigation will be thorough and swift."

We’ve written before about the continuing debasement of our culture as seen now on a daily basis on our television and movie screens.  We hope that finally there will be a price to pay for pushing the envelope beyond all reason of decency.

Hopefully, the fallout from the "wardrobe malfunction" will be reflected directly in rates charged for commercials. The next broadcast of the Super Bowl will have parents marching kids out of the room during half time.

I wasn't just upset by the "Tempest in a C-Cup", I thought the whole halftime show was trash. It really detracted from a pretty good football game. I really liked the halftime show a couple of years ago with the tribute to 9/11.

I also wish they could get someone to sing the National Anthem that actually knew the tune. I think these folks that they're getting now are an insult.

Oh, they know the tune. It's just that they are vocally unable to replicate it. Lack of talent.

A celebration? I thought it was half time for the superbowl. Hokay.

I would guess the NFL is going to take much more interest in the content of next years Super Bowl half time show as well as the commercials. Maybe the half time show next year will be hosted by Ed McMahon, with singing by Tony Bennett and choreography by the Radio City Rockettes. The ads by Budweiser and Pepsi will be strictly mom, apple pie, and the American flag. Considering my age that would be fine with me.

I'd give the Super Bowl another chance. That said, I don't understand the appeal of halftime shows and commercials. Vote for your favorite Super Bowl commercial? Why? Who cares?

Why is the halftime show such an event? Because we are told it is.

The game itself is becoming a footnote.
