Former Sen. Max Cleland, who ought to know better, is telling a lie about Bush's service, claiming "Bush was AWOL and was kicked out of the Alabama National Guard." Neither part of Cleland's statement is true.

Now there's a shock: Max Cleland telling a lie. Wait 'til I tell the rest of Georgia < /sarc>.

The RATS are just trying to blunt any questions that might arise about Kerry's Post Viet Nam treachery.

Democrats were caught in this lie once before. They're getting caught again. The more they lie, the better it is for us. Lieing politicians are as hated as trial lawyers.

Interesting, considering that Bush was in the Texas Air National Guard.

This is hillarious. Kerry et al are attempting to smoke President Bush into reacting to these absurd allegations.

They need some reaction from him to keep pounding away at him because they have nothing.

Why doesn't the media ask this question of Kerry and the dems: Why are they so concerned with Vietnam. That was a disasterous democrat war and not applicable to the current situation. Leadership is not predicated on military service. If that were true, every president from Taft through FDR should not have been president. The next President in history with no military service was WJ Clinton.

But of course, the media whores never ask questions.

The commentary ( click on source ) is the usual back & forth, but here's the kicker:

Why I don't think it's a big deal in three simple steps:

1 - the Air Force didn't think it was a big deal back in the day and they were a lot closer to the problem than we are. So if it was good enough for them it's good enough for me.

2 - he received an Honorable Discharge. An Honorable Discharge means you completed your service and performed honorably, meeting or exceeding the standards of performance and conduct. It cannot be awarded anyone who was AWOL or had an Unauthorized Absence prior to being discharged - that's a fact of military life. So if the Air Force didn't have a problem with his service and they saw fit to award him an Honorable Discharge, what's the big deal?

3 - most of the people who are suddenly so interested in GWB's service and wether he served his commitment to the armed forces are the same people who normally spit on the armed forces. I find their sudden concern for those wear the uniform (and those of us who have worn the uniform) to be slightly disconcerting and more than a tad disingenuous.

In 1971 George W. Bush was wearing the uniform with pride and serving his country and supporting the troops.

In that same year, 1971, Kerry was desecrating our flag, called our troops baby killers, and was openly siding with our enemy.

The fact that they have to go back to Vietnam is a victory in my book. My bet is that the American people are going to rightly conclude that Kerry can't stand on his record in the Senate or on Iraq.

"And Sen. John Kerry, current front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, reportedly has not decided whether or not he'll use the "Bush AWOL" charge in a campaign against President Bush."

PINGING Kerry's hero medals . . .
