Complaints Pour in to FCC Over Super Bowl Flash By Peter Kaplan WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Upset television viewers have filed more than 200,000 complaints about Janet Jackson's breast-baring performance at the Super Bowl, a record for the Federal Communication Commission, officials said on Friday. Gripes over the flash of Jackson's breast last Sunday easily eclipsed the FCC's previous record -- 80,000 complaints that came after television actress Nicole Richie used a curse word on the 2003 Billboard Music Awards, the agency said. "The vast majority express outrage that this occurred during a family program, when many children were in the viewing audience," FCC consumer and information chief K. Dane Snowden said in a statement. The furor was touched off when pop star Justin Timberlake tore off part of Jackson's black leather bustier while the two were singing a duet, exposing her right breast. The halftime show was carried by Viacom unit CBS and staged by sister network MTV. It has intensified calls for the government to take a tougher stance on indecency. FCC Chairman Michael Powell has vowed a thorough investigation of the incident, calling it a "classless, crass and deplorable stunt." The Parents Television Council, a non-profit watchdog group, said it also has been receiving complaints at a record pace, more than 24,000 so far. "We are getting them like crazy," said spokeswoman Katie Wright. Both performers have apologized, and Jackson said the performance went further than expected. Timberlake blamed the exposure on a "wardrobe malfunction." CBS has already said it would use an "enhanced delay" on its Feb. 8 broadcast of the Grammy Awards so it can censor both audio and video as needed, and Walt Disney Co.'s ABC network also said it will use a delay on its Feb. 29 broadcast of the Academy Awards.

Shocked and embarrassed about the end of the show? What about the crotch grabbing guy, garter belt and little else dancers and their bumping and grinding? The whole show was a disgrace. CBS viewed the rehearsels and didn't make them change it.
Matt Drudge was saying CBS high rollers all approved of the tit showing and guess what - the tit got showed.
Who was talking about putting the genie back in the bottle?
When CBS elected to turn the halftime show over to MTV, they knew what they were getting into, just as much as I did.
Thanks for the lecture, but I don't even own a TV and haven't for over four years, so you don't need to preach to me.
Which is why I said they could delay it for five years, for all I care.
So if I rape and multilate a young lady then apologize, you think it's ok? You are missing the point - most real people are tired of the MTV porn and are taking a stand (finally). So it is not done.
Exactly. Just look at all the cable networks Viacom owns, and tell me you don't see the same sorta garbage on each and every one of them. Start with Spike and their idiotic WWE wrestling, then BET with their cop killing, dehumanizing of women rap crap, MTV and the Osbournes, VH1 and their Prison Rock, I could go on and on, but we all get the idea. Viacom is the last place anyone should turn to, to find any sort of "wholesome family entertainment". Matter of fact, most of these media giants are garbage dumps of societal decay.
Something was mentioned about this being an election year and CBS having return coverage payback, or something to that effect . .
I envy your strength of character.
Exactly. I think a lot of parents finally got the message concerning the trash their children are watching. Maybe it will have a lasting effect. We can hope.
Thanks for the kind words.
It was scary at the time, but it was way easier than I thought. Having a 1 year-old( at the time ) gave me motivation.
We did a Nielsen survey for a week. The only entry in the whole week was for a single 30 minute show (A British comedy on PBS).
But I did watch sports occasionally, and weather reports, and news of live events.
I don't miss it a lick nowadays. And my 5-year old son doesn't either.
I don't know if it was strength of character, or just self-preservation...
It was both.
Now you read, converse, interact, do things with your hands, think, create, and are able to make your own conclusions. Your son will thank you one day for being able to discern right from wrong and will have the advantage of growing up without his mind being poisoned by the political correctness of Hollyweed.
VCR and DVD players are still nice though. The old Disney movies were great for kids.
Thanks for posting.
