Former Vermont Governor Howard Dean and his advisors are looking into options that would allow him to run for President on the Green Party ticket should he fail in his bid to wrench the Democratic nomination away from Senator John Kerry.
Dean had been looking at the Green Party long before his campaign caught fire.
As early as late last summer, Dean was considering the Green Party as an option, particularly because at the time Ralph Nader, the Green nominee in 2000, appears lass interested in a run.
'This isn't a ploy to get the Democrats to pay attention to us, says a Deaniac in Washington.'
'This is about ensuring that our man's views and this supporters' views get carried into the fall campaign. A Green Party bid puts him into the debates with Bush and whomever the Democrats nominate. It keeps us viable.'
It would also, as the Deaniac pointed out, get the attention of Terry Maculiffe and the DNC pretty quick.
Dean is the first to brag he's brought in hundereds of thousands of new voters to the party-voters who would most likely would follow Dean to the Greens. He probably would generate more votes than Nader himself pulled in 2000, again dooming the Democrats to another loss.
Nader has not indicated what he will do in the 2004 camapaign. In the past three months he has twice pushed back a decision on whether he is running.

Richmond ping.
Not to say "I told you so" but I told you so.
I'm definitely voting for him tomorrow. With his ego that knows no bounds, and the illusion of support, he'll bolt. The dem vote is split and voila! GW and 4 more years.
Please, dear God, let it be so.

I'm on record for a few months now saying Dean would bolt to a third party. I believe this for no other reason than the man is spiteful and vindictive. I read that Dean quit his church over a dispute about a bike path, and he quit his college fraternity over a dispute about a coffee bar. If Dean were President he would get us out of the U.N., and it would be over a dispute about the furniture in the lobby or something like that.

We sure are getting a LOT of new members here this month. Is true. Smells weird, all the newbies, some with potentially controversial nicks and immediately aggressive attitudes. Joining up in droves, or coming out of hibernation after joining some time in the past.

How about Former Congresswoman 'Jihad' Cindy McKinney from Georgia as Howie's VP!
There's plenty of flakes to go around in the Green Party, Howie should feel right at home..

The Green ticket this year will be Dean/Kucinich. If that happens, this race is OVER.

I'm keeping a close eye on it, and I think so are the Mods. With the campaign beginning, and the desperation gripping the Dems, I think we'll see a lot of trolling here. I think it's already started. Several new members per day seems suspicious to me.

Too good to be true, IMHO, but after Ross Perot, anything's possible. But he has the mountain of Nader's ego to climb if he's going to be the Green presidential candidate. And I don't see Howie opting for VP, but as I said, anything's possible.

Don't rule out a Green Dean/Kucinich ticket. ;)

This is great for Hillary, a 2004 Democratic meltdown sets the stage for her waltz/coronation to the nomination in 2008. (provided Edwards,Graham etc is the VP nom)
The Clinton/DNC machine should be encouraging Howard to do this..

What makes him think the Green Party would have him?
I think a third party would kill to have him as their nominee. Just think of all the publicity. I would surmise that they would think it would legitimatize their party
