[history]
Episcopal Church officials yesterday announced a $3 million shortfall in the church's 2004 budget, caused chiefly by parishes and dioceses withholding funds to protest the ordination of a homosexual bishop.
The shortfall equals 6 percent of the $48 million in revenue the church had expected this year. Church officials, according to documents obtained by The Washington Times, have revised the budget to $45.1 million.

They should give nothing, in fact they should form their own denomination wholly separate from the other church.

Why should they join that church? They want a liturgical service according to the Book of Common Prayer. How is becoming a BUMP going to give them that?

"Episcopal protest hits collection plate
Actually, when I was an Episcopalian, we called it an offering plate."
My mom is High Church Episcopalian. As I recall, my mom placed quarters in slots of cardboard which she called an offering, at least that's what she did when I lived under her roof. I never saw a collection plate in my life. High Church is much too proper to "stoop" to a collection plate.
The Anglican Bishop in this area voted for the gay priest's new ordination. The bishop told reporters, and his flock, that if the local churches withheld the church's due, there will be problems. But he said it softly, like Tom Daschle. It is proper that one sound contrite when threatening the flock with unspecified retributions.

... when threatening the flock with unspecified retributions. Zot? For what? Opposing those opposed to the "be fruitful and multiply" concept? That's be "fruitful", not be a, oh heck with it.

The funds need to drop a great deal more than that. I hope, maybe in vain, that this isn't just one more mainstream protestant denomination that kicks America into the gutter.

The Episcopal Church stopped being "mainstream" as far back as the Sixties.
They have been controlled by anti-American Leftists for the past several decades.

The Diocese of Virginia, for instance, is giving 16 percent of its budget...Of the three bishops in the diocese, Rt. Revs. Lee, Jones (coadjutor), and Gray (suffargan); only The Rt. Rev. Gray, a former Marine, voted against Vickie Gene... Yet I'm surprised at the 16 percent, especially noting how the diocese is wailing and gnashing its teeth over the amount its budget has dropped over Lee's and Jones' endorsement. I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop, that of trashing the RITE of matrimony when DoV priests are allowed to marry gays and lesbians. At that point I hold my nose and convert to Roman Catholicism!

When I wrote "hold my nose", I didn't mean it as a denigration of RCs. My main objection is the celibacy of to priesthood (which I believe should be confined to monastic orders or the convent). I say so, because I cannot imagine how a priest can counsel a troubled marriage if he is not married himself. I also note that the Church, until the Dark Ages, allowed priests to marry. I also am a bit troubled by Marian philosophy, although I believe I could accept Her as the mother of the Church. I have been accused before on FR of being a Catholic basher, which I am not (I have RCs as family members) and I remind those who truly are Catholic bashers that there would be no Christianity without the Catholic church. But I would like the see the Church more in step with its beginnings. Vatican II was a move toward that step, I just want to see more progress.
