[history]
The National Rifle Association has yet to name the main speaker for its national convention in Pittsburgh this spring, but the organization is touting that "a special keynote speaker" will be there.
As many as 50,000 people are expected to participate in the April conference -- the NRA's first Pittsburgh convention. The NRA, which lobbies for gun owners' rights, has 4 million members nationally.

The NRA (according to Bill Clinton) made the critical difference in electing George Bush over Algore three years ago. Hope W remembers...
To: Eric in the Ozarks
Yeah, I remember that also. But W seems to have forgotten who elected him. conservaties who are/were opposed to big government spending and handouts for ILLEGAL aliens.

Become Life member-then you won't get a bill...
If the mailings annoy you (don't they everyone?) you can elect not to receive them.

I have not received a bill for five years.

Cool. Wonder if the public can get in?Looks like a lot depends on which of the scheduled events you'd like to attend.
Some of them require advanced registration and tickets.
It looks like general admission for NRA members is free, but non-members can sign-up as an "associate" member for only $10 at the door. And properly identified members of other organizations may also qualify for free admission (active members of the military, police, firefighters, Boy Scouts, 4-H, etc. etc.)

Here's a new prototype for what I hope will be a sticker and logo to be downloaded and printed for free, the way the Sore/Loserman posters were created at the grass roots level.
Also under consideration is "THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS" across the top.
I'm off to the SHOT Show tomorrow, and won't be posting until I return.

Just so you know, some people complain because they have to get off the couch and throw a piece of paper away while others get out their checkbook.
It's a great way to find out who the summer soldiers are.
If you think you're getting a magazine subscription, forget it. There are volunteers at these conventions. The same volunteers are teaching at the gun ranges, testifying before the govenment and working in candidate's offices.

some people complain because they have to get off the couch and throw a piece of paper away while others get out their checkbook. I am not sure how to take the remark but I will explain:
I'm not a sportsman. I own one Ruger 9mm with a 15 clip that remains locked in a collectors gun room in Atlanta. It has never been fired. I agree with those who say the right to bear arms is one of the most important components of our society.
Total klutz that I am, I tried shooting a few times and it never took. I figured I'd get myself or someone else hurt because I did not have the commitment to the sport nor the talent that is a requirement for safe operation.
Because of my lack of significant interest, I'd hate to see the NRA waste its money on me by sending anything that diverted my donation away from it's core purpose. I get all the information I need here on FR from the generous and incredibly well-informed people of the likes of you.
Hope that puts it all in the right context.

Thanks for the ping.
I plan on going, but part of my time will probably be spend promoting the real 2nd Amendment candidate - Pat Toomey - and giving the NRA a friendly kick in the you know what for endorsing Specter.
Alright. A not so friendly kick.
