Pro Military News! TOTAL FORCE!

The "total force" includes active duty and reserve component service members. And while the missions that like units go on are identical, there are differences in the way active duty and reserve components deploy. These differences were apparent at the Feb. 12 deployment ceremony for the 30th Heavy Separate Brigade. The unit is the first National Guard combat brigade to deploy since the end of World War II.

30th Brigade was at the Nat'l Training Center, Ft. Irwin, CA, in June '03.

I was there, riding with 11th ACR, training them.

30th BDE got their butts handed to them the first few days, but they got it down towards the end.

These Guardsmen will do just fine.

This is a good article and I'm glad you posted it. I've seen my share (and then some) of reserve unit deployments, and I agree with what the author writes.

[M]any communities are losing the very people who make it work. Many police, firefighters, paramedics and government officials also are National Guardsmen.

If I can make one quibble, I don't like the idea that the people who make communities work are just the ones in government. The private sector does as much or more to make things "work."

Thank you for posting this.

The Guard and Reserve is NOT the "weekend warriors" of yesteryear.

Guard and Reserve units are more cohesive and work together better than most of their active duty counterparts.

Simply put, they are a family.

My Unit's motto, "One Team One Fight" 123rd ACS.

If we have to deploy our "National Guard" overseas, there is something inherently wrong with our military layout. We obviously need a much larger military. Just where does our record levels of taxes go, if our military is so small that we cannot take on Iraq with our hands tied behind our backs? Or politicians brag we can take on both Russia and China in a two front war, but are having to strip the reserves to fight a half a front war?!

Who the heck is guarding our home, if we are sending our Guard overseas?!!!
