Kerry should be wary of dredging up past

If you own a computer or listen to talk radio or read the British or Australian papers, you'll know that John Kerry is currently beset by rumors of interns. By the time you read this, it may be that America's genteel broadsheets and network news shows will have overcome their squeamishness and tiptoed gingerly down the path blazed by Drudge and Fleet Street, or it may be that they decide to investigate it a bit longer, just to get chapter and verse nailed down, which means you may not get to read about it till, oh, midway through President Kerry's second term.

I still remember the Bolshevik press crucifying Reagan for calling Vietnam "a noble cause." These people are such hillarious Orwellian style hypocrites.

Sentimental liberal internationalism -- everything has to be done through the U.N., no matter how stinkingly corrupt and ineffectual it is -- is just as inadequate to the challenges of the age.Steyn has a way of almost casually making points that should be shouted from the rooftops.
Interestingly, this is one of the things that makes him a great writer. He doesn't pound every point home when it has little or nothing to do with the particular article. He just tosses it in there and then goes back ot his point.
(I like to think of myself as a good writer. It is truly humbling to have just learned something from a master.)

YES.
Given the unConstitution incumbants addiction to "Stare Decisis", THE political fight from now on is ON. Encumbants, elected and appointed, are unincumbered by the very Ratitified Constitution from which they derive and claim any and all of their lawful powers. Usurpation is a full time cash cow business inside our Halls of Power.
Our Bill of Rights must be rewon after scheming outlaws and conspiringing wimps are removed from the Senate.
Senators' corruption is sickening.

''We're a little older, we're a little grayer, but we still know how to fight for this country.'' Thirty years ago, he came back from Vietnam and denounced his ''band of brothers'' as a gang of drug-fueled torturers, rapists and murderers.
Why is no one in the lamestream media pointing this out? It's a point screaming to be made.
So one John Kerry is a fake. Which is it? The Jane Fonda in pants of the early '70s? Or the Bob Hope USO tour Kerry of today? Running on biography is lame enough. Running on fake biography is pathetic.
Thank you Mark Steyn!!!

Thanks, Pokey. For the FULL TEXT post and the ping ! This bears REPEATING re Kerry's hypocrisy ...
Yet here we are two years later, and they're running on biography all over again. But this time their chosen biography is Vietnam, and for many Americans, and especially boomer Democrats, that's far more psychologically complicated. Look at Kerry's stump speech: ''We band of brothers,'' he says, indicating his fellow veterans. ''We're a little older, we're a little grayer, but we still know how to fight for this country.'' Thirty years ago, he came back from Vietnam and denounced his ''band of brothers'' as a gang of drug-fueled torturers, rapists and murderers. These versions are not reconcilable. When he was palling around with Jane Fonda in the '70s, he hated the military. It wasn't just that he opposed the war but that he accused his ''band of brothers'' of a level of participation in war crimes and civilian atrocities unmatched by the Japanese, the Nazis and the Soviets. If he'd said, ''We band of brothers . . . We're a little older, we're a little grayer, but we still know how to get high, murder the gooks and rape their womenfolk,'' it would at least have been consistent with his congressional testimony.

Next to these deceptions -- and self-deceptions -- what are Dems hoping to pin on Bush? Thanks to Kerry in his Hanoi Jane period, Vietnam was a disaster for America that gave the establishment a wholly irrational fear of almost every ramshackle Third World basket case on the planet. Look at what everyone from Arthur Schlesinger to Chris Matthews wrote about the ''unconquerable'' Afghans only two years ago. Great article. I like this part the best: "That defeatism was the Kerry legacy from the '70s: a terrified, Kerrified America. If he wants to fight Campaign 2004 on Vietnam, then, as he would say, bring it on"

It isn't just her accent, it's her Tides Foundation connections to all the ultra left-wing organizations, including Soros. Her family's foundation donates 4 BILLION dollars a year to these lefty organizations.

Guess he thought we'd chicken out (and that's because that is what he would do), and SELL OUT America to the UN.

"which John Kerry are we supposed to identify at the real thing"
Remember, a fireman is a hero when he saves people; if he becomes an arsonist and kills people .. which is the real person?
And .. President Bush gave a good description of Vietnam. He said it was a war run by politicians, and that's the wrong way. The right way is to have a goal and then let the military come up with a plan to accomplish that goal. Which is why we won in Iraq in 3 weeks.
I do not believe there is a democrat alive today who is willing to do that. The only democrat who did was FDR .. he used General Dwight Eisenhower to plan and execute WWII.

"slander unchallenged by Bush"
Gillespie was on MTP this morning and did an outstanding job of nuking the "deserter" and "awol" statements. He really put the words in perspective and declared they were slanderous statements. Then he said with a coy smile, "we're not planning a lawsuit or anything" ... whereby Russert quickly interrupted to change the subject. It was stunning!!! I believe the gauntlet has been thrown down. We'll see how much moxie the dems have left.

"Steyn has a way of almost casually making points that should be shouted from the rooftops."irv, that is very perceptive...you are clearly a good writer yourself to pick up on what makes Steyn's writing so...so something, but words fail me, LOL! ("compelling", maybe?!)
Pokey, thanks for the *ping*...I do think this may be one of the best articles Steyn's ever written, and it should be "shouted from the rooftops", or at the very least re-printed in syndication in all the local newsrags...
Good point about "Tides", C.A.....there is just so much "out there"...if I can "Google", why can't the NYT, et. al.?! Isn't this in the interests of the "electorate"?? < sigh >
*ping* to the optimist and Con...entire article at post 22, and a most excellent read you might be interested in...the remark about "psychology" is one of those "seemingly casual" references (Steyn's not a PHD or anything, far as I know) that, IMHO, is righton the mark...interesting thought! ;)
