Marty Backus Jr, a former publisher, is suing Lancaster Newspapers, as he claims they ordered him to attend church weekly and go to bed with his wife every night. He also claims that the paper banned him from alcohol and said he must have dinner with his family at least five times a week. His suit claims he was fired after 21 years when the Lancasters began to question his faith in God and loyalty to the company. Mr Backus also claims he was summoned to corporate headquarters in Gadsden after he and his wife began experiencing marital problems. He alleges he was "reprimanded and told by agents and representatives of (the Lancasters) that they could not employ a publisher that had marital problems and did not attend church". The Big Sandy News reports the Lancaster company has not formally responded to the suit. Robert Neeley, publisher of The Paintsville Herald, one of the four Lancaster newspapers in Kentucky, said he had not heard about the federal lawsuit.

"go to bed with his wife every night. He also claims that the paper banned him from alcohol"
We need to see a picture of the wife.
If she were a dog, maybe he had to get blitzed
to get into bed with her.

Another poorly written (and worded) headline. I wish there
was a firm that made people write well and use good grammar.

I wish there was a firm that made people write well and use good grammar. Of course, you mean "I wish there were a firm that made people use good grammar." Subjunctive. :o)

Anyone dumb enough to put up with unwarranted employer interference like this for twenty one years will have no sympathy from me!
The paper sound like jerks. I can see their viewpoint on happy marital relationships and no public drinking of alcohol since he is seen as the public face of their companym, but their writ should stop at the front door! And they should face up to the fact (As they probably have) that their restrictions will and have discourage some talent in the future.
