"W. Scott Thompson is an adjunct professor at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in Boston, and a former assistant secretary of state in the Reagan administration. He has visited Taipei eight times and now lives in Bali."

The author looks like a highly reliable source. To me, this is the keystone of the entire Kerry story.

I don't know if Thompson has his kerry's right. His article is based on a verbal conversation. Senator Bob Kerrey was in VN at the same time as John Kerry. Bob Kerrey had admitted publicly that he had killed civilians when he was in VN. Unless Thompson can clear up which Kerry or Kerrey Adm. Z was referring to, this may be a non-story.

Although Lt. Bob Kerrey and Lt. John Kerry were both in VN at the same time, I would think that Adm. Zumwalt would know the difference between one man missing a leg and up for the CMH and another up for a Silver Star.

Interestingly enough, Kerrey spilled the beans without provocation that he killed civilians in VN in April, 2001 - a secret that he kept since '69.

Didn't Lt. Calley get crucified for killing civilians?

Didn't work out that way.

Mar 31, 1971 Calley sentenced to life at hard labor.
He spent a couple of days at Leavenworth, then transfered to Ft. Benning under house arrest pending review.

Aug 20, 1971 Calley's sentence reduced to twenty years.

Dec 21, 1973 Military Court of Appeals upholds Calley's conviction, but sentence again reduced to ten years.

Sep 10, 1975 Calley pardoned and released, after serving only three and a half years.

Interesting timing: The story about Calley & My Lai was breaking in November of '68; just about the time Rambo John was assigned to TF115.

John "Me Lie" Kerry?

...maybe Kerry was sent home early because they wanted to get rid of him. Give him his 3 purple hearts and send him home. In other words he was fired.

Lt. Wright has already stated that was the case.

Maybe thats why he took up his anti war stance, to get back at them.

That's an original thought; but based on some of the stories of him at Yale, he was already against the war in 1966.

Isn't that the brilliant admiral who approved the use of agent orange in Viet Nam? How many American troops did that kill or cause to suffer?

I had heard about his son, but wasn't sure of the source. Not surprised about the next generation -- we are seeing the same health issues related to radiation exposure.
